I'm looking at the Dell Axim X51, but can't decide if it's worth the extra money to get the X51v.
With the higher resolution screen, do you actually get any extra screen real estate, or simply higher resolution? I've played around with the VGA and normal modes in the emulator, and it seems like you don't get extra space because it also increases the font/icon DPI. Is this correct? $150 extra seems like a lot just to get higher resolution. Thanks |

It's not just a bigger screen, you get an actual graphic processor.
I think it's worth it, but it depends on what you will be using the PDA for. |

I'd really just be using it for note taking, GPS navigation, and wireless internet. Maybe the occasional game/movie, but probably not frequently.
The graphics processor probably wouldn't be of much use then, would it? |

Prob not, I have the X51V and I love it, have GPS and everything. But I payed just over $400 AUD in america for it brand new from Dell so it was a no brainer for me.
With the extra resolution, you can force it to use that resolution, VGA, ie smaller icons etc. I found this to be a bit unstable but you can also force it into VGA mode for particular programs, I do this for Acrobat which is very usefull. And some programs are natively VGA aware. Pocket IE is native VGA aware so it looks great (tho i use minimo). Also the X51v has a better graphics chip for games and movies(does make a differance). If your in Melb I can show you mine if you want. Chris
