PS3: Media files through network?

Hey guys

Quick question on the PS3: Is it able to play media files through a network (or alternatively have those files transferred to its HDD and then play them)? eg, tv series and so on stored on my computer that I want to play on my home theatre through the PS3 over network.

PS: I'm pretty sure the Xbox360 can do this... right?
