Default G.Skill 2GBZX (F2. DDRII PC-6400)

Hi.

Just wondering if anyone has any of these and have done any OC with them.

Are they as good as their F1 version? F1 was able to hit 270MHz (from a default of 200Mhz).

cheers

I believe the new 2gbzx ddr2 stuff is moving over to micron ic too so that should be good. No idea about current. If the F1 stuff you mean was the ddr1, 270 was the high end. Average would have been about 255mhz.

You guys must read this thread:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=109340

in short 2GBZX is not working with the DS3 which I notice Bayan has in his Sig.

If you have some crappy old DDR2 around you can still boot and change the settings before switching to the 2GBZX. Otherwise you are screwed. The ppl in the states are RMAing the RAM but not sure what will happen with us.

I have contacted the G.Skill rep on xtremesystems and he has given me a contact to email but I haven't got a reply yet.

Unfortunately, I don't know how long your wait will be - these beta bios versions are not helping the issue.

edit: Ok, here's, as I understand it, the problem, which is a basic rundown of the thread linked earlier:

The DS3 defaults to a 1.9V VDIMM. The ZX requires 2.0 to boot, minimum. As such, the only way to get around it is to shove in a DIMM that can boot at 1.9V, manually up the voltage to 2.0V, save bios, then shove in the g.skill ZX RAM. Basically every other RAM boots at 1.9V, even if requiring laxer timings to do so, so almost any other RAM is able to work in this mobo.

You then encounter the problem that if you have a failed OC, the BIOS resets itself to defaults, which means back to 1.9V, so again the RAM swap is needed to boot. It's a pain in the arse, and requires you to have some spare RAM.

For some reason, however, this does not effect the HZ models (as well as a couple of others) as far as anyone has seen. Why this is the case, I dunno, as every place I've looked states they also are tested at 2.0V too. Perhaps it's that since they're a higher quality chip, they are able to POST at 1.9V? I've seen tentative reports that other brand RAM has been having the same issues, if it is only able to boot at 2.0V or more.

In short, these are the models that have issues:
ZX
NS

It's frustrating. The problem lies, it seems, with a combination of a) G.Skill RAM not throttling itself down to work at 1.9V, even at a reduced performance, just to boot, and b) Gigabyte DS3 not properly detecting that the G.Skill RAM requires 2.0V to boot, and thus setting the VDIMM to 2.0V.

Here's hoping it gets fixed soon.

Ok if you do happen to have a DS3 and ZX RAM email alice@gskill.com with the details and the place where you got it from.

Just got an email from PCManiacs (where I got mine from) saying that I can swap the ram to another type of G.Skill for just the price difference.

G.Skill USA Rep
Hi
You might need to increase the voltage to about 2.0~2.1v to run at DS3 motherboard. In our lab we need to increase to 2.0v to able the run it.
Thank you
Yen
