Exclamation Xbox price drops by $250!!

Xbox Price Decapitated

April 18, 2002
Today Microsoft Australia has announced a savage price cut of their videogame system, the Xbox. It is a drastic reduction of the recommended retail price (RRP) by more than thirty-eight percent, a cut of more than AU$250.

The cut comes as the competing system from Nintendo, the Gamecube is due to reach store shelves next month on the 17th of May. The new Xbox RRP (effective from Friday, 26th of April) is now AU$399. The launch price (RRP) of the Gamecube is also AU$399, exactly the same price.

...The reduction announcement was accompanied by the news that Microsoft will be offering a gift to consumers who have already bought the machine, with a retail value of AU$250, the exact monetary size of the price cut. The gift involves two free Microsoft Xbox games of the customer’s choice and an extra Xbox controller. The offer is effective from 26 April, 2002. Existing customers can visit the Australian Xbox website www.xbox.com.au or call 1800 148 894 for details on claiming their gift.

Glad I held off purchasing untill now!

Hey smart arse, find me a thread about this in Other Toys. Huh? What? There aren't any others?

Seeing as this is the proper section for such a thread, I made one in here.

So instead of letting the admins know that the other threads were in the wrong forum, you decided to supplant them with your "legitimite(sp)" one?

Give it up. What the hell is your problem? How many hours of sleep are you gonna lose over this duplication of threads?

I'm defending my right to tell people to use the search function.

It was a great move by MS. Out of all three companies, Microsoft is the only one who can afford to do what they have done.

Soon the cube will be $300 even, and despite the lack of decent games available right now its still a good deal.

aren't microsoft loosing money with the x-box at the moment, without the price war beginning?

not that it really matters to them anyway...
