Default hmm, 2 80w pelts, now wat do i do ?

ok i have 2 80w pelts sitting here, how do i attach a heatsink to the hot side? do u use artic silver paste or apparently some silicon?

secondly how do i make the heatsink hold onto the hot side of the pelt?

as u can tell i know crap all about pelts, if someone could post me some helpful urls :-)

80w is to big for a heatsink.
I think 72W would be the absolute max on a top of the line heatsink.
And ur not going to stil the 80W peltier on ur T-Bird are u?

Wink

Have you considered water cooling?

Or do you intend to use a Peltier between

CPU/ColdPlate/Peltier/HSF?

You are doing well just air cooled,

Yes you can reduce CPU temp - this may not get you a higher CPU speed.

Please do some more research, before committing.

Cheers Amy -

If u are thinking of useing an 80W peltier on your T-Bird @ 1.45Ghz, please dont. It will only end in tears.

U should have 120W + on that T-Bird and for that u will need watercooling.

hmm thanx for the advice, i wont cool my cpu with it (not directly anyway), not really worth it unless i goto watercooling but then it just comes damm expensive :-P

ok i need some info on, condensation and insulation

i was thinking of trying this: even if it doesnt work it will be fun
http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...&threadid=3847

i got a question, when cooling hot side, do i put artic silver between the pelt and the hs?

heres another idea. wat would happen if i mounted the pelt on my thermoengine where my fan of my themoengine is now, then mounted a fop38 on the hot side of the pelt, wouldnt the cold side of the pelt cool the heatsink (but better then aircooling) and the hot side be cooled by the fop38. This would then cool my cpu?

e.g.

------- cpu
------- thermoengine
------- pelt (cold side on thermoengine middle core bit)
------- fop38 mounted on the hot side to keep it cool?

will this work? just another idea?

I dont think that would do much at all, if anything. All the cooling would be lost on the way down.

Oh and that sealed case idea, wont work. Peltiers are very very inefficient, hence the need for large clamping pressures when cooling CPU's. With the amount of heat being expelled from all of your system components the pelt will do nothing at all. Ur better off to just have a good airflow through the case.

that might just be wat i end up doing memphis :-) i will be the star of the lans, with my little eskie cooling everyone drinks :-) OR better yet mount my computer in the eskie :-P now thats a good idea.

lol mental note dont plug in pelt without cooling on hot side, bot sides got hot in like 10seconds and now my hand hurts :-P

also i would need to run these pelts of a different powersupply to my motherboard, does a powersupply need to be plugged into a motherboard to work, because i tried pluging the 2 pelts into a powersupply attached to nothing accpet the powerpoint offcourse but that didnt work :-)

Dont quote me on this, but if u put a wire looping from the Green wire to any Black wire on a ATX PSU then it will switch on and off from the power point.

Otherwise just find an old AT PSU with a switch

Using 2x80W peltiers in parallel (side by side) shouldnt be a problem for a tbird.

But, there is no way you could do it with a HSF.
Water cooling would be a must, and it would need to include a very good radiator.

It would be worth trying to do, youll prolly get below zero CPU temps if your watercooling could handle the peltier heat properly.
