Default Dell Laptop Vouchers

Hi guys!

Just wondering if you had any idea approx how often Dell release vouchers for their laptops? I'll be getting one in about 2-3 months.

Also, I work in the IT Industry, are you aware of any sort of claimbacks I can use because i'll be using the PC for work also?

Thanks alot guys!

Where do you find these coupons for the Dell Australia store? I occasionally get them in the Dell e-newsletter, but I haven't had any for quite a while now.

Specifically that 10% off notebooks, actually.

get yor employer to salary sacrifice for your laptop, so they buy it sans tax. you then pay them back out of pre-tax dollars.
you then claim a percentage of your laptop for work/study related purposes and depreciatre it over 3 years.

of course, if like me, you have other PCs at home, then you can claim 100% of your laptop.. :P

All it means is that you can reduce your taxable income by the amount of your laptops depreciation. So you will not pay tax on those few hundred dollars, and it might move you into a lower tax bracket and save you some money. It does NOT mean you somehow claim large chunks of the laptop purchase price.

As for the Dell coupons, it is entirely and completely random, you will be entirely at their mercy when buying from them.

easy. because i have 2 other computers on my desk, i apportion them for personal use, and only use my laptop for work or study related purposes.
obviously, in this situation, i'm not claiming a deduction for the other computers, although I probably will work out a way to claim the SC430 when i run up some virtual servers on it.

(i also claim 75% of my internet connection... and i do this as follows:

24 hours a day.
- 8 hours at work
- 8 hours sleep
8 hours a day. * 5 available.
16 hours * 2 available
= 72 hours per week that the internet is available for me to actively use it.

i'm on call, and i have on call logs to establish usually 30 hours of pay over a given week.

then i'm also undertaking mcsa study, so i'm reading knowledge bases, researching ideas, theories or answers on the internet, including Technology based forums such as OCAU.
thats about an hour a day, maybe 2 or 3 a day on weekends, that gives me another 25 hours.
gives me 55 hours, is 76%.

incidently, I also get to claim 55cents per hour for working at home, on top of this i beleive.

yes. its legal to salary sacrifice, then claim it back.

I guess you will just have to go on believing wrong then. Last three laptops I've bought - salary sacraficed then claimed 100% as a tax deduction.

Perfectly legal (go ahead ask the ATO), of course you have to depreciate the lappy over a couple of years.
