hey, just ordered a dell 'inspiron 6400' laptop, main features are:
Intel Core Duo T2050 (1.6ghz; 2mb cache) 2x 512mb ram radeon x1400 Just wondering about the graphics card, what does it match up to in terms of desktop cards? The only games I'd be interested in putting on are warcraft 3, cs:s. I know this may be a longshot, do you think it can run BF2 ? cheers. |

Warcraft and CS:S should be fine. BF2 will also run reasonably well if you run it at medium/low detail settings and a fairly low resolution (1024x768 should be fine).

I've got a x1400 in my 9400, runs most new games fine on low->medium settings. Have played COD2, Flatout 2, Half-Life 2, Prey, etc, no hassles or slowdowns as long as you don't try running the res to high or with AA, etc to high.

I hope you used this
www.dell.com.au/odg --- 10% off over $2000 Why didn't you getthe Merom Upgrade (64bit) T5600 for $188 or at least the T2050 --> T2250 for $38... Did you get the 9 cell battery as well, a bluetooth.? You should also heavily consider the 3 years warranty if you didn't get it.. and the AV cables.. (propriotry-- difficult to source from elsewhere). Quote:

I don't really need memrom. Laptop will be home use alot so no bluetooth/ 9 cell battery. Yeah i did get cables, seeing though it was only $15.
$40 for a .2 ghz, I can't tell difference. Main use of this laptop is for internet and lan games like war3, family pc. Didn't get 3 years warranty. edit: can the x1400 play age of empires 3 decently? friend who is also buying a gaming laptop wants to know. |

Fair enough.. up to you... if you can.. the spare ac adaptor is a like save..
one front of the tele.. and one on the desk.. especially only for $23.10 - 10% Personally I would think very very strongly about the extended warranty for the machine..... these things break down... What did you pay for it in the end? Quote:

a bit small for gaming IMO, thats why i went big and got the 9400 with a 7900GS (XPS is too pricey..) As for discounts, you can have a look around at ShopSafe (for Aust) and notebookforums.com (usually US coupons though) Last edited by SSJX; 2nd October 2006 at 3:32 PM. |

Ok, i didn't buy today, Dell wouldn't discount more than $50 on the XPS 1210, so i got the total wrong impression from some other comments on this forum, they must have only be relating to the Inspirons, and the XPS has little discounting. Bummer.
