Gday,
I've had this laptop for awhile now (P4M 2.4, 1GB RAM, etc) and it's been great until a couple months ago when the fan started making weird noises (sounded like it wasn't working properly). The system then started to run incredibly slow so I turned it off immediately to prevent any damage and let it cool down for awhile. Turned it back on and installed one of those temp/speed control things and made it run at half speed (1.2GHZ) which it had been running at fine for the last couple of months. Now i've just tried to put it back to full speed and it appears stable but the temp keeps climbing and exceeds 75 degrees before I throttle it back to half speed which it sits happily between 50-60 in Windows. Is it normal for it to run at 75+ full speed? The fan isn't making any strange noises at the moment. Where could I get a replacement fan? Or should I consider something else (like one of those cooling pads)? Cheers.

looks like the bearings/brushings on your fans have given up. Is the laptop still under waranty? if so, send it back, or, if its not, try looking at
www.pccasegear.com.au or www.coolpc.com.au for replacement fans. I'm not too sure about notebook fans, but make sure its the same size (40/80/120mm) |
