Default Dell Inspiron E1505

Are these laptops identicle to the 6400?
I couldn't beleive how cheap these things are compared to what we get here.

I'm looking to get one as my parents are in the US right now and hoping they can bring me one back.

but for $1100 AUD I can get

15.4" With Truelife
Core Duo T2250
Radeon X1400
1GB RAM
60GB HDD
CDRW/DVD Combo Drive (I have 3 Dual Layer DVD burners at home do this doesn't bother me)

would there be any reason not to get one from overseas at this price?
Also how would this thing perform compared to my current (too old, not worth upgrading) Desktop in my sig?

The only reason I could think of not to buy it is a lack of warranty here (I'm assuming the price you quoted includes local warranty only).

As for performance, I think the laptop would comfortably outperform your desktop machine.

The 6400 and E1505 are the same laptop. In the US you can still get the Inspiron 6400 - it's just listed in the Small Business section instead.

They are cheap, but there are a few problems:

(1) The customs limit is $1000. Any more than that and you'll be paying a few hundred dollars in tax.

(2) I'm pretty sure that the default warranty only applies within America - Dell Australia won't help if it breaks.

In terms of overall performance it should beat your desktop by a decent margin, especially in new games.

I'm fairly certain that the three year onsite warranty comes with international coverage. Check the warranty section on the Dell.com website.

Not if you say you brought it along from Aust...

Discard/hide all the 'new documentation' too

Indeed, but the default warranty is only one year. If he pays a few hundred dollars extra ($240US) to get the three year one then it'll have international coverage.
