Default Silly question: expected overclock speed?

I currently have an AMD XP1600+ stepping from somewhereabouts December 2001.

If I were to get an Epox 8K3A with 256/512MB Samsung PC2700 DDR RAM, what kind of speeds would I expect from a FSB overclock?

The CPU is locked
I am running 2xNIC, 1xLive!, 1xSCSI PCI

Thanks

anything from 1.4Ghz (as long as your chip works at default) to 1.8Ghz+/- depending on cooling, current temps etc etc
Also, you were right, silly question

Maybe I should just check the PCDB

But, what I was really wondering is what does the standard XP1600+ chip overclock to with just a FSB overclock

If it's December, 2001 it's probably an AGOGA or a AGNGA so it should o/c pretty well...

The Epox VCore goes pretty high so if you're willing to push it you'd probably attain 1.6GHz without too many dramas...

All relative though & depends on your PCI devices being able to handle high speeds...

But the chances of pushing it to 166MHz using a 1/5 divider is very slim?

On a 166Mhz FSB, that would put you up to 1743Mhz on the chip, so you might get it, you might not.

The simplest solution is to try it and see.

good luck.

'zactly what I wanted to find out... best place to find out is probably the PCDB but I've been too busy lately

Anybody here overclocked XP1600+ to 1743MHz?

That's a 343MHz gain (24.5%)!

Damn, I'm going to need some good cooling. Lucky winter is fast approaching

The AGOIA stepping 1600's have been doing very well.

I have had mine up to 182 x 10.5 (1911Mhz) but it soon crashed after entering windows.

atm I am running it at 170 x 10.5 (1793Mhz) cause if I go higher on the FSB my HDD drops down to PIO mode and gets veeerrryy slow.

what sort of cooling have you got.

I'm lucky to push 150 fsb with a Vulcano 7 and a XP 1700

I currently have a GlobalWin WBK38/68 but I can never seem to get the HSF installation perfect. Right now, I'm running the XP1600+ at default speed (1400MHz), case closed, idle (well, just normal windows applications) and using a 4800rpm (I think?) fan. I can use 6800rpm but that just gets too noisy...

What FSB can u get to before it drops down to PIO mode?

Nich - what sort of idle and Load temps do u get w. the GlobalWin? I get around 47 fully OC'ed and load. The better the cooling, the higher the OC. Also, the only way to find out what you can get it to is to take it as high as it will go .GL

I can use it at 172Mhz, but at 175Mhz it goes to PIO...I havent bothered to find out exactly where it changes.
