Default Worth waiting?

Hey everyone,
I hope you all are well?

I just got a big bonus this month and am looking at buying the best laptop I can within Australia. The laptop will be used as a desktop replacement for high end gaming.

I am currently looking at the Dell XPS M1710 with most of the extras. This will cost around 6K (Hey, after working 6 days a week, 11 hours a day, and getting a bonus I want to spoil myself for once )

BUT I was just wondering since I have been buisy at work and have gotten out of touch with technology...

Any new technology on the horizon which I should wait 2-4 months for? More powerful CPU's, graph cards etc which dell will probably add to their XPS series laptops? Is it worth waiting for anything?

Thanks in advance guys.
Have a great long weekend.

Regards,
Andrew

Nothing huge until next year i believe...also, wouldn't you be spoling yourself even more if you bought a 3k laptop now and then in 12-24months when it started being not as good bought another 3k laptop, its up to you but, damn thats alot of cash...anyway if you wanna get an uber XPS desktop replacement, check out dells factory outlet, when i looked yesterday they had a dell XPS 20" laptop on it for alittle over $4k

I doubt it.

For the price of the lappy he is quoting it would have a core 2 duo @ 2.33GHz, 4gig of ram and a 7900GTX 512mb card.

A dual grafix card desktop pc with 4gig of DDR2 and top end core 2 duo plus monitor, psu, keyboard, mouse, case, mobo, dvd burner, hdd etc will cost a $hit load then add a mid range lappy on top of that and see the BIG 10K + blow out.

To the op. If you need it now the M1710 is a good, powerfull notebook and would be a sufficient desktop substitute that would play all games for a while to come. I was thinking about getting the same notebook but opted to wait till mid next year for the next gen notebook from DELL.

Hey guys thanks for your reply's

I was looking at Alienware's laptops but got put off by some reviews on their customer service/warranty issues etc. Would you say their customer service etc is better here than the states?

Also, although the alienware laptop (forgot model name) has an SLI setup, it's fps was lower on some games compared to the dell xps.

Where would one find this factory and its associated outlet?

[Edit] Found it (i should have searched properly before posting). They are not discounted all that much. From what i can tell on their site they come with the standard 1yr warranty, is it possible to add extended warranty options to these?

Hey guys,
I just saw the Metabox D900K.

I was just wondering how much better this laptop would be compared to the dell XPS?

D900K
AMD 4800 or FX60 (I heard the performance difference isnt much? Can ayone verify?)
200gig 7200rpm HDD
512mb 7900GTX
2gb DDR memory (I am unsure of type?)

Would the metabox be a better gaming desktop replacement? Battery life is no concern.

Also, hows the warranty/service with these metabox laptops?

Thanks again guys!

That's a lot of cash to waste. You can get something over your needs for $3K. Just remember that 6k lappy will be out of date in 6 months.
