Default Built in web cam?

Considering a laptop, not sure wether to upgrade to a webcam, i think it would be cool to have one, but i just can't see myself using it all that often, possibly never.

People who have a built in webcam in their laptop, or even a normal one, is it something you use, what do you use it for, anything worth getting one for and paying an extra few % more?

i have a webcam in mine (MacBook Pro) and i use it here and there, but if your shopping for a notebook and a webcam is a must then you don't really have many options..

They're used mostly for chatting through Skype or MSN or other similar programs.

Actually it's an upgrade on a Dell laptop, $75 more for the 1.3mp webcam + some noise isolation ear buds (i think they're Creative brand, worth ~$35).

I don't use the skype or MSN, may use skype at some stage for calls, but none one i know has a webcam, and i don't have any desires to do webcam chats, but i do want the headphones cause i've only got some cheapo ones ATM, and noise isolation ones are great for plane travel. So i'll probably get the upgrade.
Just trying to cut down the price in some place, cause i'm already over budget.

Cool. Is that the clip on kind.

I would be more inclined to get one if i didn't have a camera on my phone.

I'd never trust a laptop with a built in webcam.

You never know if you cop a trojan/spyware infection and it starts transmitting video of you to somebody

That's not a problem on mine. The webcam has a little plastic cover which slides over the top of it when not in use (to keep dust out). If someone managed to remotely activate the webcam, all they'd see is black.

Shit, really. Mine doesn't have a cover over it. The only thing i could do is rotate it like ~240 degrees. So i could face it outwards, or i could face it up into the bar at the top which the holds the camera in, so that might block enough, but i would have to remember to turn it every time i'm using it.

I can't see why anybody would want to watch me staring into my laptop screen. I could image some interesting footage of people, such as a guy enjoying himself looking at porn.

I'll keep it in mind.

It's got a built in mic as well, so would they be able to hikack that as well?
