I learnt on a DJM-300 which allows for both channels to be played through both ears at the same time, so I've basically used this method ever since (which is possible on all Pioneer mixers/a Xone 92). But I can still resort to the one ear on-one ear off method if I come across a fucked mixer or dodgy needles or something.

Well well.. finally recovered sufficiently from Saturday night to work a computer properly and post some piccies (still hurting tho.. ugh i'm getting old..).

House Party at a mates place.. Bucko behind the decks..

A closer look reveals the hardware.. DJM-800, couple CDJ-1000's, a lonely denon 5000, FS 1.5 and some Numark Platters. Lovely..

Me (on the left) and Raury.. We headed out to Ambar for a taste of Electro and Breaks about midnight with his missus and a couple of her friends. Got terribly messy and exited just after the sun had risen. Brilliant.

No sleep.. started drinking at about 11am sunday to numb the pain that was building up and lounged around next to the pool until 7 or so.

Fantastic night/day/weekend.

Putting it pretty close to (if not at the..) top of "all-time-fun-night-involving-dj's-and-stuff-lah" list. Didnt get behind the decks myself.. the others were fantastic though.. a pleasure to listen to.. mix of house, breaks, DnB. Good turnout too..

Speaking of photos, here's some from Ultraworld at Kryal Castle that I took over the weekend.

Fucking top night, really awesome tunes all the way through. Twas awesome playing to a packed Magic Room behind the main stage, especially when I dropped Walt & Feliz - Endless.

Found out some info

Quote:
The following is an explanation of your licensing requirements under the Copyright Act, 1968 ("the Act") relating to the use of protected sound recordings and music video clips by mobile discotheque operators (or DJs).

As you may be aware, the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA) is a non-profit organisation established in 1969 by Australian record companies to act as their agent for the purposes of issuing non-exclusive licences, to cover the broadcasting and public performance (playing) of protected sound recordings (including CDs, cassettes, records or any other device in which sounds are embodied) and the exhibition of music video clips (including Video Compact Discs (VCDs), Digital Video Discs (DVDs)) protected under the Copyright Act 1968 ("the Act").

The owner of the copyright (in most cases the record company), has the exclusive right to perform (play) / exhibit, or to authorise the performance (playing) or exhibition of, that protected sound recording or music video clip in public. Therefore, if a person other than the copyright owner performs (plays) protected sound recordings or exhibits music video clips in public without the necessary licence, copyright in the protected sound recording or music video clip is infringed.

In other words, anyone who performs (plays) protected sound recordings or exhibits music video clips in public must be licensed to comply with “the Act” before any protected sound recordings or music video clips are performed (played) / exhibited on their premises.

A mobile discotheque operator's licence allows you to play protected sound recordings when operating in venues that would not normally require our licence. This does not include fixed discotheques (those which take place on a regular basis) where the owners or occupiers of the premises should hold the appropriate PPCA licence.

Also remember clubs pay APRA fees for this exact reason.

Quoted for truth.

Though, it really comes down to from which view point you look at it, or, how you describe a "dj"

When I hear "DJ" I think of people like myself. Someone who goes to a club, plays for an hour or two, gets paid their dues and lets the next DJ take over to continue the proccedings. These kind of DJs, who play in licenced venues, do not need to pay any kind of royalties to anyone, as the licensed venue pays those fees to APRA, as I explained earlier in the thread.

Those who when they hear "dj" think the guy who comes out to your work christmas party or 18th with a bunch of cds and fades tracks in and out all night, they have to pay royalties, because, in most cases, they are not perfoming in a licensed venue. How many of them actaully do pay their dues, well... heh.

well im a storedj regular and after pestering the hell out of them and learning they cant take much from the members price i tried froogle.
the only store i recognised was HTFR and there price seemed competitive.

i paid 200 for the package (with cds n vinyl)
and 35 for postage.
thats in pounds, so around 590aud. it couldve been cheaper but i went with platinum post. (i know that my package has left the store but hasnt gotten much further yet).

i just need to start gettin some mp3s worth playing onto my pc

edit: platinum post, has given me a fedex tracking link, i can nearly watch it travel.
atm its left paris and is in transit
