Default 3ns memory

Does anyone what the max speed that 3ns ddr2 memory can do. It's on kingston ddr2 667 but i need to know if it will overclock aswell as my ddr2 533 which is 3.75ns. 350 @ 1:1 for ddr2 533 is good i think.

Hope you can understand this post coz i know FA about memory timings, i will be will be buying some in the morning cant afford ddr2 800.

Thanks.

overclocking = no regard for specifications. if it can do it, it can do it.

theres only one way to find out.

In theory at least 3.0ns memory > 3.7ns memory for overclocking... but as it's been said..
theres only one way to find out.

yep. E6300es @ 2.8 (400x7) for everyday use.

I honestly think this RAM is capable of so much more if I had more voltage to play with. I'll stop by DSE or jaycar tomorrow and grab my resistor for my volt mod

Nano-second ratings are just factory ratings. They usually have little direct influence on overclockability. It's simply a measure of access time (or something to that effect) at a specific CAS latency and RAM frequency. 3ns generally designates DDR2-667 5-5-5-15 chips.

My Micron based Corsair Value Select is 3ns RAM but it will clock well past 667MHz and into 1000MHz+ on the same 5-5-5-15 timings. It all depends on the chips and PCB.

The only place 'n's ratings come into prevalent use are when you start talking GDDR memory as manufacturers tend to underclock the RAM to a lower frequency than what it is rated for straight out of the IC manufacturer. So they not only clock up to the original IC manufacturer's rated speed but usually past this also.

What motherbaord are you running & what sort of cooling. Could it be because i'm running 4 * 512 dimms.

Change the latency to 5-5-5-12 from 5-6-6-15. Has no effect on max clock speed.

I'm running an Asus P5B.

This RAM get's sketchy at 425, it's not folding stable, as it ends WU's early, but it's fine for games and everything else.

Thanks for the info, pitty i can run it at 9*400 it gets into windows and BSOD straight away maybe with better cooling using stock ATM.

The new timings work i'm getting better memory bandwidth benchmarks.

These new settings should be stable. I'll give mine a bit of voltage tonight and I'll let you know how they hold up.

ns ratings do not seem to take into account CAs latencies as I thought. It is simply a measure of non DDR or true operating frequency. Manufacturers round off to the nearest digits. I.e:

3.0ns = 1s/333,000,000Hz
1.4ns = 1s/700,000,000Hz
1.25ns = 1s/800,000,000Hz
