Default RF Distruptor

This is probably the best place for a post like this, im currently undertaking a design project, and i was wondering about the possibilty of a device that creates so much interfereance it would make mobile devices such as mobile phones, anything bluetooth based.. cordless phones.. wireless networks.. etc completely unusable

If anyone has any knowledge on the subject i would much appreciate asking you a few questions

My knowledge of this is only very basic, but essentially what you need to do is have a device broadcasting at the same frequency in the vicinity of the device you want to interupt. At a higher power level too is always preferable. So, yes, it is possible, but what you want to build is probably subject to regulation however. I remember hearing or reading about an electrician or electonics wizz that used a satelite dish and the magnetron from an old microwave over to direct the microwaves at devices and fry they electronics. I think the purpose of him doing this was due to hoons in his neighbourhood that were constantly doof doof-ing in the street. I think that would be a more worthwhile project

They are called Jammers and i think u'll find they are highly illegal. Unless you're an experienced RF Engineer or EW Expert don't waste your time cos u haven't got a hope.

I don't think theres a chance of making one that works and is legal. Maybe just build a giant faraday cage around a building.

What about knocking out a TV signal at close range?

Say i threw a box on to next doors roof next to their antenna, would it be possible to make something broadcast on a big freq or have something change the freq up and down very fast>?

Had a mate once once who had two HT transformers, essentially he had 240v stepped up to 4KV then through another homebrew transformer to step it up again, (no idea how far as we had no measuring equipment for that kind of voltage range). Just getting that much power radiating from a coathanger blocked out all t.v, radio and mobile phone for 1Km. depending upon power output EM radiation will cause almost all electronics to fail.

That's nuts, having that amount of power through a coathanger. Surprised you didn't melt it. But that would be an awesome effect though, blanking out everyone's tvs

If you know someone in the Navy, ask to borrow the main radar off of an ANZAC class ship. It'll knock out everything for kilometers. In fact they're not allowed to be used in locations like Syndey Harbour for this very reason. They're also very hazardous to ones health if you're standing to close.

think of it more as radiating from the coathangar rather than through

What a load of crap. You wouldn't even have RF emission, without a resonant transformer /capacitor combination - a Tesla Coil kind of thing. Even if you did have RF emission, you wouldn't cover that range of frequencies.

Not even a large Tesla coil will disrupt RF communications over that scale, although limited interference, eg. static and interference to TV and telecoms, PA etc over a radius of say a few blocks can and does occur with a large enough coil.

Lets say i got a old TV transmitter, modded it to boost signal output, wrapped a tree in enamel coated copper wire and switched it on would i be possible to knock out a small neighbourhood's CH7 TV signal with my pr0n stream and how long would the jail sentence be
