Default Pioneer Light 822 x1600 14.1"

Anyway had a go with one?

I would imagine they would kick but in core duo and the price is amazing, but pioneer quality? Anyone with first hand experience may know.

Just to confirm but you may know this already: this has nothing to do with Pioneer Electronics, which is famous in making visual/audio products.

Plus, it's called Dreambook Light 822, not lightbook.

I was pretty keen on buying a Pioneer Dreambook light 822 myself. But i was told to steer clear of Pioneer Computers. I bought a Dell XPS M1210 instead.

how bad could it be for $1500 which includes a core duo and x1600 and 1GB ram?

i havnt seen a lot of people who own them complain, 1 or 2, but boy i have seen a lot of people complain about other brands which ppl still recommend. so im a little unsure whether is chinese whispers.

if they any better than my 9400 (which i would see hard not to be) i owned i would be stoked.

It probably has something to do with the quantities of the products been sold?

E.g. Product A (well known brand) is sold by thousands, 10% customers complainted, that's hundreds you would hear.

Product B is sold by hundreds, 10% customers complainted, a lot less complaints than A in numbers.

Does this makes B better than A?

Pretty bad? It's the bottom-end Core Duo, a 4200RPM HDD (quite a lot slower than the slowest options that Dell offer), no OS, and a short battery life (when APC reviewed it they commented on the fact that the battery life is pretty poor in the X1600 version). Extra batteries will be $199 each. It's also got no wireless capabilities and no DVDRW - 802.11g is $49 extra, bluetooth is $39, and a DVDRW is $89 extra.

It might be faster than your Inspiron 9400, depending on just what specs the 9400 has. If the 9400 has a 7900GS for video, the Dreambook won't stand a chance.

To simplify what max223 was saying: if Dell sell 1,000,000 laptops there might be a thousand complaints made. If Pioneer sell 100 laptops, there might be fifty complaints. What's better? Obviously Dell has more complaints, but in Dell's case only 0.1% of laptops caused problems; in Pioneer's case it was 50%. Clearly Dell has better quality. That's purely hypothetical, but it illustrates the point nicely - Dell sell far more laptops than Pioneer, so obviously there will be more complaints about Dell ones.

Actually it's $1544 for a core duo, X1600 & 1GB RAM.

But that's with only a 1.66GHz T2050 Processor.
- 2 x 512mb 533mhz RAM (average speed, & 2 pieces = more expensive upgrade)
- 40GB 4,200rpm hard drive (slow and small)
- 24x CD-ROM drive (doesn't burn CD's, doesn't play DVD's)
- no bluetooth, no wifi,
- no operating system (pricey)
- 6-cell battery (basic)
- no card reader

Did you read any of the disucussions i linked to crabbytech?
