Default Guitar Hero - Hard & Expert Players

Just had my first taste of Guitar Hero 2 for the PS2 this weekend. And I luv it. If I owned a PS2 I would have bought the game today.

I'm fairly decent at the game on the medium setting, where you stick to 4 'frets' for 99.9999% of the time. But when you move onto the 5th fret (orange) in the Hard & Expert modes.. I'm totally lost.

I was just wandering what is the key to playing 5 frets with only 4 fingers?

You move your hand.

The yellow button has a ridge on it that you can use to guide yourself.

I'm tempted to buy it just for the Trogdor track!

Yup its just a mental leap up a fret. Same finger movements as in medium but you just have to shift up when you see some orange ones.

Was rocking out Friday and Saturday nights. One of my mates can easily nail the tracks on expert, barstad. :P

Still on hard here, but just starting to find it easy. Wish I had a PS2 just for that game alone.

In Guitar Hero 1 I can't even finish it on medium
Plus it makes my wrist sore after 1 or 2 songs. Fun game but I really suck at it.

For those of you that dont know... there is a free Guitar hero clone for PC called Frets on Fire.... the new version supports importing of both guitar hero 1 and 2 songs as well. There are also a lot of user created songs for it, though these are not as good as the GH songs. FUN FUN FUN.

http://kempele.fi/~skyostil/uv/fretsonfire/

It doesnt yet support a tremelo/whammy bar though... although Im guessing that may come soon as a company is working on a guitar controller for it.

My partner won the guitar hero comp at his work (hes a game programmer, they have console competitions all the time), he said it was on expert (5 frets). Sounds hardcore but cool. Can't wait for guitar hero 2 to come out now xbox360 that is.

Move your hand around, 'learn' the song, and 'feel' the music. I know it sounds stupid but thats how I do it, 5 starred most of the songs in gh1 and gh2 on expert

Off topic, can you buy Guitar Hero 2 Controllers seperately?

Yes you can. There are aftermarket ones, and On our search for guitar hero one... we were at Kmart and though we'd found it, but it was just the guitar only . It was a white guitar instead of a red one from GH2. it was $70, and the aftermarket one at JB was $68ish

I had another go on hard and expert, since I've like mastered medium. Haven't tried an easy song on hard yet, but I'm getting better... I might be able to complete a song today.... The one thing holding me back is my weak pinky... and its poor performance when teamed with the middle finger. Which is how i hit those RED & BLUE combos, and now the YELLOW and ORANGE combos.

Wireless official guitar hero 2 guitars will be coming to australia around late Jan 2007 apparently.

I managed to luckily pick up a second guitar (guitar hero 1) from a friend. barely used.

I nearly bought a Guitar Mania Shredder controller today, looked good for $50.
Luckily it was one of those EB "fake box" deals where the kid has to run out back and grab the product, so I saw him putting this tiny child's plaything into the box, and I'm like "can i see that?"
It looked so rubbish I just put my wallet on the floor and backed out of the shop, never to return again.

Hope KMart still has the proper ones.

Wouldn't mind getting this game, but don't like the $100+ pricetag due to getting the controller as well, are there any 3rd party controls that aren't too bad?

Currently GH2 + controller is $103 at Dick Smith and GH2 by itself is $63, so unless you can find a 3rd-party controller for less than forty bucks I'd say save up for the real deal.

edit- Bah, nobody sell the proper controller on its own, just the crappy toy one.
hmph, if I wanted to play with something flimsy that's 3 inches too short I'd stick my hand down my pants
