I'm looking at a laptop which boots up fine to XP, and is useable with an external monitor plugged in, but the laptops monitor shows no signs of life.
I've done a search of the forum and previously seen references to inverters and backlights but these usually advise that something can be seen in the monitor - I can see nothing under normal house lighting or by shining a torch into the lcd. Any ideas on what this would be? Laptop is an older Toshiba, Satellite 2590CDS. TIA |

No, no response from the screen. applied pressure allong the top back of the base and bottom and side edge of the lcd - nothing. I'll see what I can find to direct me on looking inside hoping this might be the issue anyway. (Anything else may be more than its worth spending on it? - cel 400, 192 ram, 4gb hdd)
Cheers and thanks for the quick suggestion. |

It doesn't sound like a simple fix then, it could be a power inverter. I think the biggest issue is that the machine is a bit older, and the amount of effort/money involved in fixing it maybe not worth it's value. Does it have to remain portable, or can it live out it's days attached to a monitor ?

Good point, I'll check with my uncle - if he hasn't got a monitor I've got some 17's spare (worse than lost puppies and kittens - they seem to follow me home!)
Cheers. |
