Default Ideal University Laptop?

Hey,

I am in the market for a cheap laptop just basically for lecture notes, and browsing the web. My budget is about $1400 max, and I basically the main thing I wan't on my laptop is one with very good battery time.

Now, I have no idea where to begin looking, I was just wondering if some people can post some alternatives or name a good brand to start so I can do some research myself.

Thanks.

What about looking at buying a second hand one, and then buying a second battery witha bit of the money left over, so you can switch out batteries to give you extra time.

Rob, have a look around at the Dell Inspiron range - they are usually excellent bang for buck.

Also, if you read around these forums a bit, you'll see a couple of people (or maybe fanboys) recommending Macbook Pro's. Check them out so you know what Apple is offering but I don't think your budget is enough for one of these.

Yeah, if you don't mind the size, the Dell Inspiron 6400 is $1328 delivered at the moment, and upgrading from a 6-cell to a 9-cell battery should only be around $40. $30-$40 left in your budget will also get you something like a RAM speed or size upgrade, or bluetooth added, or a HD upgrade.

Benq have some nice laptops in your price range, still using the Pentium M Centrino processor, but much nicer looking and feeling, & smaller than the Dell 6400.

There was a nice white 13.3" Benq centrino which i think is in your budget, but i can't find it know, not sure which one it is.
