Hi all,
After spending bloody hours trying to find a suitable (cheap) replacement mouse for my Amiga I've had the idea of a USB mouse (input) to serial mouse (output) convertor. The Amiga mouse is a 2 (though it supports 3) button mouse which outputs 'raw' quadrature pulses, which the CPU+software then interprets directions and speed. Amiga port pinouts can be found here: http://pinouts.ru/Inputs/AmigaMouseJoy_pinout.shtml There are already a number of PS/2 IBM mouse to Amiga converters dcoumented (such as this one here: http://ps2m.sotchenko.ru/ ), so I'm thinking something similar with a USB host, a PIC (or other microcontroller) and serial output should be do-able. Any comments/suggestions/where to start most appreciated! Regards, Gizmomelb |

Some device to decode a usb mouse signal and send the raw data the way the Amiga wants it?
The real problem is dealing with the usb protocol is that you need a host controller to handle the usb connection, and I don't know of anything that is simple enough for the diy'er to deal with here. Everything comes with usb transceivers that slave off your computer but very little that can host the connection by itself which is what you need here

yeah I've just started looking at USB On the Go (OTG) as that at least provides some possibility for USB devices to talk to each other without a PC involved.

Most USB mice support being used with the PS/2 protocol and such aswell anyway...
I have to make a new mouse for my Amiga too... Finally found a working hard disk to use with it and found the mouse had died. Doh! Edit: On second thoughts, if you use a mech-optical mouse (ie, ball with the internal IR light pulses), can't it just be wired almost directly to the port? Optical would be 100 times harder due to needing to convert the mouse data to the pulse.
