ok, it seems that the vast majority of notebooks have integrated video with shared memory. of the few options that do have a dedicated video card i am not sure whats best...
These are the common video cards i have seen in notebooks: X1300 256mb X1400 256mb X1600 256mb 7300 Go 256mb 7600 Go 512mb any help would be appreciated, even if someone in the know can rank them for me... if one is the clear winner (which i am thinking its the 7600) then i might go for that if its not too uber expensive... which of these cards with a decent core duo wouldnt be able to play the current generation of games on high settings?

The best video card for gaming on a laptop at the moment is the 512mb NVidia Go 7950GTX. No DX10 video cards out for laptops as yet.

Of the above cards the best is the 7600. But you will also need to take into account the resolution of the screen. Say a x1600 on a small screen will run faster than the 7600 on a high resolution screen.
I've got the W3J with the 14in 1280x768 with the x1600 and it plays NFS carbon with high everything fine. Plays fear, doom3 fine too. And i would NOT consider anything with a 7950 GTX a laptop. It'll be on a 17in or bigger monster weighing 5 kg which you wouldnt carry with you every day. Its a desktop replacement/benchtop... |

will also be hooking up a 19" LCD to her during day to day use so resolution is definitely an issue, 7600 sounds like the way to go.
anyone know of a good tablet pc that uses this gpu?

I could be wrong though. The smallest laptops I have seen with a 7600 would be a 14" Asus (sorry I forgot the model number). |

hmm.
what tha? (just saw your avatar)... back to it, it doesnt definitely have to be a tablet, but it need a reversible screen so i can use it as a desktop replacement at work also (i.e. a small monitor with the computer inside) and will also attach a second monitor... hmm...

7600's are not exactly fast anyway.
So its more of a medium res/settings card

I've got an inspiron 9400 with a heavily overclocked 7900go for my gaming laptop. Weighs 3.8kg and performs as fast as a stock 7900GT. Plays every game on the market at 1920x1200 flawlessly.

If you turn off AA/AF, it'll run just peachy. But yeah, Oblivion at maximum settings chugs. Even on an 8800GT it struggles with 1920x1200.
