Default $1000 off Dell 9400 (2 days left)- top of range only

Now only $3,499, I'm waiting for them to take $1000 off there lower end 9400. Thought for $3500, I'd be pissed at 2x512mb of RAM (a single 1gb stick is only $9 more though).

Do you realise they raised the price by $1000.. then offered $1000 off.

$3499 is the NORMAL Price for it...

The old deals were $1000 and an extra %10 off and $500 off with an extra 25% off...

My 9400 with a T7200 and 2gig of ddr667 and 120sata, 9cell battery, 3 eyars warranty office, bluettoh and 2x acadpators, 7900GS, 1920x1200 screen cost about $2612 all up. approximaltey 2-3 months ago.. (with a free wrieless router as well)..

My GOD the $3499 prices doesn't even include the 7900GS...

They have actually increased the price of the 9400......!!!!!.. (Its even MORE than the normal price a week ago)....

Here is a link to the original thread.

Gah, Dell's pricing gives me the shits. Work out what the product it worth, and sell it to suit. I could never buy a Dell, knowing that next week it *could* be half the price.

I bought a HP PDA over the Dell equivalent because of the pricing madness.

That's dodgy... in October I ordered a 9400 for my dad who got it for $2650 with free delivery and double memory. We upped it to 2gb and a few other options which brought to $2900. This one doesnt even include the 7900gs video card.

Damn I wish I had the money back then I shoulda bought one too. Its such a sweet laptop.

Also of note, they have removed the 7900GS as a standard item on the top of the line 9400 and made it a $388 option.

What's even more confusing is when people say "oh i got it for $xx" when they neglect to mention the fact they got the barebones system. If you're going to drop a price, atleast mention the cpu, ram, hdd, and video card you got with it so people have something quantitative to compare to.

That price is a joke though.
They are charging you for 3 years full warranty, 3 years of McAfee software, MS Office, giving you 2x512mb sticks (bad bad), not giving you a GeForce, and trying to tell you you've got a sweet deal.

I got a fully specced out 9300 (but with WXGA and 512mb ram) 18 months ago for ~$3200 (inc. fdd, bags, batteries, etc.) I wouldn't pay over $3000 now for the beez neez.

Yep, Dell are a PITA when it comes to pricing.

On November 1st (late October) the price was like this:

Inspiron 9400 with:
* 7900 256mb
* 1gb ddr2 667 (2x 512mb)
* 120gb hdd
* carry case
* bluetooth
* 9cell battery + spare 9 cell
* carbon fiber kit

With the $1000 discount + 10% e-code, for ~$2600. After sallary packaging it ends up costing $1,550. Sell the 2x512mb sticks on eBay, buy 2x 1gb sticks from MSY for $50, to have 2GB ram. So all up ~1600 for the above (after salary packaging and 2gb of ram).

Only thing still left to do is sell the 120gb Hdd when the flash-based vista drives arrive and grab a 160gb-200gb drive, well largest that comes in 7200rpm flavour.

Choppa, you're my hero! That's exactly what I want to do (and at that price). Fugging come on Dell! I want 17" goodness.

Isn't this illegal?
I wouldn't put it past Dell, but I'm pretty sure stores have been busted for doing the exact same thing.

I advised a friend to get one of these when they had choppa's spec and were priced at $3400 with a voucher that brought them down to $2400 (my friend wouldnt pay for the carbon fibre looks or any extras =P). I think their current offering is a bit of an insult, but a lot of people will see 1k off and in a frenzied state click the buy button.

Oops, the default at the time was the 2GHz C2D. T7200 I think it is.

Need all the extras you can muster!

Anyway it was $1000 off + 10% off. There were two vouchers. After $1000 and 10% off it was ~$2650ish, now with nagging you could get the education discount (another 6-8%) OR better yet salary package as written above. Total cost is just over $1600.
