Default new ASUS or VAIO

hi, im in the market for a new laptop to semi replace my desktop, but i want it to be small, light, but still reasonable powerfull and still able to play games from time to time. ATM im looking at either a sony VAIO VGNC15GPB for $1999 or the ASUS A8JP4S014P $1952. the sony is obviosly smaller, which is a good thing but lacks the power of the asus.

wat im asking is if you where in my situation wat would you get. and wat are peoples opinions on both manufacturers. ie if i have a issue with the will it be easily sorted under warrenty or are they a pain in the *** to deal with.

at the moment im swinging towards the asus as it has more power, built in gigabit (which i would use), and a more powerfull graphics card.

I made this choice 2 weeks ago. I chose the Sony because I am not a gamer and preferred mobility over power.

I am happy with the Sony however in your situation you might want the Asus.

I am picking the Asus as not only is it cheaper, but the specs blow the sony right out of the water!

No they arent. All Vaio's are manufactured by sony with sony parts, mainboard, screen, speakers, etc

Asus done design work for earlier model Vaio's but they never manufactured them

Sorry mate but I don't know if that is correct. I had also heard ASUS manufactures the Sony notebooks (as well as Apple, NEC, IBM etc).

See this link: http://store.agearnotebooks.com/asusnotebook.html

Edit: I would go the Asus but if portability was a factor, I would go for the smaller 13" Sony.

The Sony may be smaller, but its weight is similar to the Asus. Since the weight is nearly the same, go Asus for the better specifications, and the ability to do a fresh install of Windows. The Sony on the other hand is a bitch to install the drivers after a new install of Windows.

I asked the same question when I worked at Sony, they are assembled by Sony from mostly Sony parts.... Usually in Japan

... Except that on the bottom, they now say "Made in China".

Only the SZ and AR series (and maybe the ultraportables) are made in Japan.

The more common C and FE laptops are Chinese now.

i have the Asus A8JP and with 2gb of memory it plays Supreme Commander on high settings quite well (dont need 100fps for a rts but it still hasnt chugged on me yet). SupCom is pretty cpu and ram intensive though so this is why the A8JP goes so well.
