As the title, what are my options?
I have 2x512mb ddr2 667mhz in the laptop now, thinking of going up to 2gb. What would people recommend? sell them seperately and find somewhere to buy 2x1gb? Anyone interested in a trade with some cash? Would there be that much of a performance difference even? Any comments would be appreciated. -Daniel |

Yes, I'd probably sell them both and buy 2x 1GB to replace them.
Whether the extra RAM will make a difference depends on what you're using the laptop for. If it's just for office work, there'll be no difference. If it's being used for new games (especially in Windows Vista) then having 2GB will be very worthwhile.

F3JP here, i knew i needed more than 1GB but was on a budget.
Replaced 1 x 512MB with a 1GB and its helped alot. A test on superPi before and after and it didnt drop a bit. Didnt seem to make a difference to the memory bandwidth. Ive been playing with Vista a bit and 2GB would be helping. I do alot of multitasking though including opening many RAW photos etc. All comes down to what you do... Ill be going 2GB down the line.... |

I'd replace your setup with 2x1GB at the least, it's not only useful in video games but also in office apps such as databases, .NET programming, etc.

I wouldn't call development apps and servers "office apps" per se. I run exactly those kinds of apps on my laptop and currently with 1gb it's feeling a bit sluggish. But I'm planning on upgrading my whole laptop anyway so I'm putting up with it for now.

i regularly crack 1gb usage on cad and digital terrain modelling applications so i went for 2x 1gb sticks in my A8JP.
doesnt make much of a difference for day t day stuff but you will need it if you multitask a lot and have heaps open ... or play supcom (which this notebook does very well!)

If you run Vista it helps alot as it caches everything quite alot better than XP.

I run a contacts DB and a CRM service management program all day and they both use .Net 2.0.
