Default Buying SFF

Hi I'm new to the forums

Anyway, I'm looking at buying a new computer, my current one is a P4 2.4ghz, on an asus P4B533 board, 3x120 western digital internal ata drives, 2x320gig external USB drives, an X800Pro 250mb, sound blaster audigy 2 ZS, 1gig of PC3200 ram and a basic ATX case.

I'm looking to upgrade to a case that's the size of a shuttle case, getting a new core2 Duo (E6600 or E6800) and new ram/harddrives/videocard/mobo etc. What do you guys suggest would be a good way to go about buying and writing a shopping list?

For budget I'm going to Hong Kong soon, my dad lives there and i can get most things cheaper by about 1/3 to 1/2 the price in Australia because of the current exchange rate.

Thanks for replies

If youi are looking at getting something 'shuttle sized', then you are getting a Shuttle. I don;t think there are other SFF's around that are as small as the Shuttle's.

With that in mind, head to their website and see what C2D versions they have (only 1?) and what it can fit.

I'd be looking at 2xHD, 1xDVDRW, 1xPCI-E Vid card, 2x1GB DDR2800, and an E6600.

There should be a thread in here about the Shuttle C2D model, check it out for more info.

It's possible to buy SFF cases that are similar to the Shuttles as individual empty chassis. No motherboard or PSU. Take a look at the selection at AusPCMarket.

I have my eye set on the Silverstone SG01E. It can take full sized ATX PSU's and mATX motherboards. That way, you're not bound to the proprietary configuration of the Shuttle XPC's. In two years time when you want to upgrade, you don't need to purchase a new shuttle, you can simply swap the components.
