Default looks better than a A8Js for $1k less

ITC Metabox™ Z96JBS (built by Asus)

Looking around for a replacement from my M6Va and came across this ITC website, www.itchannel.com.au/Dea...752180&Special=1 Seems to be the best buy I've seen so far.

Building it from the start template it costs about $500 more for the same specs. It looks to have pretty good but can't find much about them in terms of reviews or comments.

T7400
1GB 533? memory
ATI 1600
15.4" - 1680x1050 res
100GB @ 5400 rpm
XP Home
Gibabit, 4x USB, 0.35MP camera, 4 in one reader, etc

All up: 1989.90 with a 3yr warrenty (which is return to base)

Was considering a A8Js but this has a larger, higher res screen, slightly faster processor, but slower, larger HDD, XP home, 1 less USB, no DVI output, slower GPU - for about $1k less.

Any comments from someone with one, or has bought a Metabox. Any problems or issues my limited research into laptops hasn't told me? I'm particularly interested in the screen quality as I like the screen on my ASUS M6Va.

ppl are buying a8jp for 1600 from DJ and the only major differences i can see is one is 1.8G C2D while this one is 2.16G

The Z96J isn't a bad laptop - but there have been some issues with very poor display quality. These seem to be related to the Radeon Mobility X1600, and I haven't seen a solution. The same applies to the lower-resolution S96J.

The big reason for paying extra for the A8Js is that it is smaller. 14.1" laptops with decent video cards are very rare; 15.4" ones with decent video cards are common.

A8JP for $1600 from David Jones? That's not right. $2000 average, and $1850 best i've heard from Myer.

that was a demo version and it was the last one they had, so DJ sold it for 1650.

but i know 2 ppl got it at that price from DJ.

i can get a demo from myer for 1900 (from 2100 originally), but i didn't want it cos it was kinda dusty and finger prints all over the screen.

I was comparing to a A8Js not A8J? which is arround the 2800K mark. Due to be released in Aus in Feb, but available from a few AUS stores online.

What ever you get, get one with high res screen such as the A8JS or the Metabox.

1280 x 800 sucks
