Im trying to work out the difference between the Core Duo 2 7200 with 2mb cache and the 4mb model. I have noticed that they are sometimes referred to as 32bit and 64bit respectively.
As I understand it the latter is a Merom core and both are of the same socket. They are both around the same price, so why would you purchase the 2mb model? BTW this is for a El 80 barebones laptop. |

There's only one model of the Core 2 Duo T7200 - the 2.0Ghz one with 4MB of cache and 64-bit support. This is a Merom core.
The 'equivalent' Core Duo is the T2500. It also runs at 2.0Ghz, but it only has 2MB of cache and it lacks 64-bit support. As with all the Core Duos, it's a Yonah core. At the moment, there is no reason to buy a CD T2500 over a C2D T7200 if they are the same price (because the T7200 is better in every way). However, I don't know if current EL80s actually support Meroms with the default BIOS. The one I got did not (it needed a BIOS update for that, and of course the BIOS update has to be done with a Yonah CPU).

The CD has a lower tdp so you'll probably have better battery life over a C2D.
How much tho? Probably a few mins or something silly.

The reviews I've seen suggested that the C2D actually ends up with a better battery life. While it may have a higher absolute maximum power draw, if you average it over an hour or so it ends up lower than CDs.

Fair enough, might just be my usage pattern on the sig desktop box, I couldn't cool a T5600 as well as I could the T2300 as I said I'm not really familiar with it actually running on batteries as this is a desktop box
