Default dvd-ram drive problems

Hi

I have a compaq presario b2800 note book running win xp home (with all updates) and i went to use the dvd drive (matshita dvd-ram uj-841s) and it wasnt showing up in "my comptuer" so i went to the device manager and it had a ! next to it.

This is what it said "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

I have tried to find a driver on the net but i can not find on anywhere. and i cannot even use the win xp cd to reinstall it as the drive doesnt work.

How can i fix this problem without having to reformat everything??

Thanx
simon
