Post Best value for money laptops?

Hey guys I'm currently shopping for a laptop and was wondering which laptop has the best value for money. I've heard dell have some pretty good deals how have you guys found them?

Also whats the deal with laptops being sold with 256mb of ram, isn't that a bit low for todays standards?

cheers!

Dell and Asus get my vote.

Dell for their customisability and Asus for their aesthetics.

Some laptops are being sold with 256MB ram, which is a crime, but they provide people with the extreme basics for standard office applications and Internet usage.

Acer Dell isn't bad as well. But Acer is still probably my brand of choice. Dell comes in as a close second

The current $1000~ deal on the HP Compaq V3118AU (?) is pretty good. Comes with AMD X2 processor, X200 graphics, 512MB DDR, 60GB HDD and DVD Burner. Not bad really.

Toshiba M100/500 $896

Not a core duo like the one above, and only 256mb RAM, but it's a couple hundred dollars cheaper. Best sub $1000 laptop i've seen.

There's a Compaq Laptop with 1.86Ghz Celeron Mobile, 512MB DDR, 60GB HDD and such for $750 including cash back. That's pretty impressive. Check the officeworks catalogue
