Default Straplocks

I'm using Willy's washer trick at the moment, but I'd like to use my favourite strap on both my guitars so I think some real straplocks are in order. However, I've heard a bunch of horror stories about the Dunlops and Schallers, and the Ernie Balls aren't out yet. Are there any other options?

I'm looking at getting dunlops or schaller strap locks as I like to use my favourite guitar strap on my strat & my bass.

What bad things have you heard about dunlop strap locks? Most of the guitar players out today use them.

Dunlops popping open at inopportune moments, Schallers stripping the thread out of screw holes and then parting ways with the guitar.

Hm haven't heard any horror stories of either one. I can't remember what straplock system that was on the PRS I had, but they worked well.

I believe DiMarzio offers a type of strap lock system. Click straps, then accesories.

Yeah, they do quick-release clip things, not really what I'm chasing though. Might make a few calls tomorrow, see what my local guy recommends.

I have shallers and they are awesome, I can't see them ever stripping the thread. I would say all those stories would be from people who haven't installed them properly. You should dowel/tooth pick the inside of the old hole and glue before installing them.

On the other hand I have heard horror stories about the dunlops, think about it, the whole system on the dunlops are reliant on a ball bearing. With the Shallers its a cup, so if the actual locking mechanism fails its still got the weight of the guitar on this cup. I know what I would trust more.

Never had problems with Schaller's. I've been using them for 15 years or so.

The dunlop neck strap thingy has started to let go, guitar has hit the floor pretty hard a few times, had a close inspection and part of the thingy has start to wear away, meaning if i hold the guitar in a certain angle, "Hi, im going to let the guitar go now".

Very true. Even if the magenetic lock fails you still have the weight of the guitar holding the mechanism in place. I think its pretty safe.

yeah both my LGX and ibanez bass have had had the screws pull out with schaller locks, simply filled the hole with threadlock & 2 thin shards of wood and they havent poped out since. I think you'll find most shops will install your straplocks for you if you ask and will use a glue or threadlock agent to hold them in there - simply because it becomes the next weakest point of failure once you lock the strap.

For what its worth i have never had a lock release on me. ever.

my freeway classic came with dunlop locks and they are a poofteenth too big for my schaller system , grinder time

No problems with Dunlops here, but nothing beats bolting a strap on.

Willy.

Just bought some Schallers on ebay for $13US ($16AUS)

I got some opinions from other people and most of them said schaller was the best, so I went for it.

If your still looking for straplocks spootmonkey, keep an eye on this seller. There was about 2-3 sets left but all ran out at the moment, More will probably pop up soon. http://search.ebay.com.au/_W0QQsassZ...the-webQQhtZ-1
