Default Asus P5N-e SLi (Mini Review) (56k no)

Ok, I got my hands on a P5N-e SLi. Great little board, cheap and has tons of features

I've posted these results on other forums but I might as well post them here as well since I don't think most people go on the other ones

Anyway I took some pics before I installed this pc, its with my camera phone so not the best quality. Will have some screenies of small overclocks for tonight later.

Here are my overclocking results. I am waiting for a colder day to try and go higher But I think I might be waiting a while for that

Stock

350FSB (NB Voltage AUTO, Vcore 1.4v)

375FSB (NB Voltage AUTO, Vcore 1.4v 6x)

425FSB (NB Voltage 1.2v, Vcore 1.4v)

450FSB (NB Voltage 1.386v, Vcore 1.4v)

475FSB (NB Voltage 1.386v, Vcore 1.4v 6x)

485FSB (NB Voltage 1.386v, Vcore 1.45v 6x) ERROR

485FSB (NB Voltage 1.536v, Vcore 1.45v 6x)

475FSB (NB Voltage 1.386v, Vcore 1.475v)

486FSB (NB Voltage 1.536v, Vcore 1.512v)

Some Superpi benchies. Gave my 1M superpi to i4memory

FSB 485
CPU 7x
Vcore 1.506v
NB Volts 1.563v
= 3394mhz

Now I only did a 5 minute orthos run since the temps were starting to stay past 70c.

1M SuperPI

2M SuperPI

4M SuperPI

8M SuperPI

This is my current "benchmarkable" overclock. Anything over 3.2ghz right now will crash while running 3dmark or something I'm going to get some better cooling for this. Or maybe just lap my cooler
458FSB (NB Voltage 1.386v, Vcore 1.45v)

I also got my hands on one of those new 65nm celerons (for about 10 minutes tops ) and here is the quick result I got.

Voltage: 1.35v
Multi: 23x
FSB: 175FSB

Not very good imho, but I think if I had more time with it I might have gone and gotten at the very least an extra 500mhz out of it.

At last someone has the 650i to give some personal reviews on. How do you find the layout of the board, can you get a thermaltake big typhoon and use that and see if it fits, how do you like the sound quality.

Also to see how it handles FSB
keep the mulit stock and up the FSB until cpu is unstable. (make sure u use divider so u know its not the ram).

Then lower ur multi and push the FSB up until u get to the same speed as the stock multi and fsb got to... Keep lowering the multi and getting to the same speed until u hit a wall with the FSB and let us know if performance changes between high multi + low fsb Vs low multi + high fsb! Just interested to see how the NB strap effects the results (super pi and sisoft sandra cpu and mem tests_

keep up the good work and thanks for sharing

Also interested in ur ram, how well it does in oc

486FSB is the highest I have been able to get currently. There is only one more voltage option I can pick. And I will probably wait until I watercool my system to run the NB at 1.7v.

There is a lot of room around the cpu socket, my Zalman 7700-cu fits, and I would say a Big Typhoon would as well

I've been leaving my ram unlinked since its actually been replaced from some OCZ gold. I now have the special ops stuff, which I must add has the best heatspreader

I am waiting for a nice crisp and cold day, the 486FSB I got was on a colder day, which seems to be hard to get this summer

Also my cpu isn't one of those lovely strong E6300's which will get a 100% overclock easily.

As it says I already need 1.512v to boot windows to get 3.4ghz, and thats not stable.

I'll try my FSB again when I start overclocking my ram. I would do it now, but it takes time to get all the fans setup in the right way to get the air flowing.

Does this board have the annoying stop-start if you overclock like the P5B?

Nope, that is a P965 trait

Its one of the best things about this board Besides the great overclocking potential of course

Well a new board, new clocks

Its basically the same as the other board clocking wise, however I could boot at 495FSB and bench at 490FSB.

486FSB was the highest I could get on the older board

Ok, well I took the words Eva2000 said on i4memory to heart. Today is a good day for benchmarking

I wont put you through all my superpi screenshots, I'll get the best for every speed I tested.

Speeds tested were:

475 1:1
470 1:1
465 1:1

I have got my ram in dual channel working in a weird kind of way. Got slots A1 and B2 to run dual channel even though they aren't meant to being different colours.

And my ram is awesome. I have had superpi stable at 475mhz, 4-3-3-7 2T And I'm sure I can take it futher, just not tonight.

And now my first sub 18s result. My goal was to break into the 17s area. And I got my wish. However I now dream of the 16s which I think I may need a new cpu for

It now gives me the 63rd fastest E6300 in superpi Gotta get it futher if I want to score more points for i4memory

Yay more superpi. And more PB's for me considering before I got my c2d overclocked I had scores of 25s+

Playing around with more ram timings again and still adding frequency. However I have reached my boards limit of the 490FSB area. Later on I might try booting the ram at 500 using the 4:5 divider.

Those are the best results I have gotten with the different frequencies. I have noticed that sometimes tighter timings get out performed by lossened timings.

Also played more with tRC and tRFC which actually when tightened down 2 or 3 it can give me a decent boost in superpi times.

But hell, look at my ram Not bad for what I think is a Promos stick
