I've got that lens as well and have no complaints about it. The HSM isn't quite as fast as Canon's USM in my experience but that's not specific to that particular lens. Once you become accustomed to it I don't think it really restricts you anyway.

I use it on my 5D and am perfectly happy with the optical performance of it.

That said I'll probably replace it with a 70-200 f/4L with IS later this year, primarily because of the weight which is a disadvantage when traveling.

I'd recommend the 100-300 lens to anyone though.

Neither do I ... and I'm not expecting it to either.

It's pretty much on par to what I was expecting. You can see that the Canons are noticeably sharper, but for my intents and purposes the Sigma is still going to do its job.

My first purchase since picking up a D40 a few weeks ago... from adorama.com:

Nikon 50mm f1.8 $105
Sigma 50mm f2.8 Macro $169 (used but in excellent condition)
Nikon SB-600 flash $180
Supreme Flash Diffuser $15

Total cost including express shipping AU$615

I might pick up the 55-200 VR later in the year but this bunch should do me for quite a while.

Got a Sandisk Xtreme 3 4GB for $69 yesterday, thought that was a decent enough price considering it was from an actual storefront.

Chinatown, Sydney.
