Don't know about the sigma but the kenko 1.4TC I've heard nothing but good things about.

Am I right in saying to those using a 70-200mm on a crop body like a 20D/30D etc... you effectively get 320mm out of the box, then if you add a 1.4 TC = 448mm ? Would be ok for a sunny day. Only problem with Avalon is your shooting INTO the sun for most of a sunny day. A cloudy day is an advantage, but maybe not if your adding a TC, or using an F4 lens.

I'm not going this year. Have been to the last four and it's the same planes everytime. And you'd think that the amount of "love" we give the Yanks over yonder, they could spare us more than a single specimen of a few selected species. 1 x F16, 1 x SuperHornet, 1 x F15... c'mon !!!
What about an A10, or a F-22 or a flying display by a B-52 or a even a C5.
I guess you need to go OS to one of the REAL airshows to see that kind of thing.

But it is still a good GREAT day out if you like planes. I've just seen it all before, and before... and before

Booking in for the next one though when I have my camera rig sorted out. 17-55 and 50mm just don't QUITE cut it for an airshow

Hehe sounds like the motor show

I haven't been before so I wanna see what it's like. I'll probably just take my 70-200 and buy a 1.4x TC soonish.

ABSOLUTELY. If you've not been before you'll LOVE IT !!!

Just get there early, right when the gates open, so you have time to walk around the ground displays, before the flying starts.

And be prepared for the possibility of either lots of DUST or lots of MUD :-)
Dust is preferable in my book. And 99 times more likely given the current climate.

Assuming you are going GA and not in the grandstands, the best spot to setup shop with a camera is right in front of the crowd announcers booth. That's where the OFFICIAL accredited, laminated neck-pass wearing photographers get to go, and you can stand 1m behind there roped off area and get the same views (and ogle/admire the gear they have too ) It's in the centre of the flight line and where most of the action happens.

Have FUN !!!

Guys if your making the trip to avalon especially you may want to reconsider. It will be a pretty lack luster affair this year i think.

They are not pre releasing a schedule at all, no list of aircraft which means you will be paying top dollar for what could be another repeat of something like Richmond.

If you live in melbourne sure why not. but dont get your hopes up.

Well in the media releases/latest news on the website, there is at least confirmation of super hornets.

Btw it's not all about military aircraft (as much as I love them) - plenty of cool aerobatic stuff to see.

I've been to some other airshows, but not avalon before. I do hope some more interesting aircraft make surprise visits.

edit: oh yeah, and check yeager will be there too

They are also hosting landef 2007 this year so expect to see some land based gear as well, most probably Busghmaster's and hopefully some motorised artillery as we have a tender out for replacement of these..

Edit: Just noticed that a Catalina will be their, pity theres no water

That's "General Charles E Yeager" to you (and me)

Are you serious that he will be there ?
Now I might have to reconsider my attendance.
I've read his autobiography so many times I wore out my first copy.

If he's doing a flying display of any kind, then I'm afraid I WILL have to go.
Dammit !!! I thought I was getting out of this one.

Him flying? I doubt it.

Yes sorry, General Charles E Yeager, not "Chuck" (as opposed to my typo of "check")

The theme is "Breaking Barriers", and there is now sure to be some sonic booms taking place

Cant break the sound barrier over land in Australia. Its illegal and they take ur license. If you did you would shatter glass all over the place. When i was there they werent allowed to go below 100ft and no faster than 900km/h

Super Hornets have been at the last 4 shows.
