The HARS Catalina isn't rated for water anyway.

It's still a great plane though.

Awesome. His display at last years event was fucking fantastic.

Now I have even more of a reason to go, other than free tickets.
He wasn't at the last one, and most certainly did not fly at it..

Uhh whoops. I was thinking of someone else, don't mind me

Got names mixed up. Now I know where I heard that name... My Dad received a photo of him in the X-1 (during flight) , signed to my dad by Mr. Yeager himself.

You won't see an F-22 here for a while, they can't fly this far west

Navigation system died going over the 180th meridian.

Unfortunately it's a pretty sad state for that plane to be in, I had a simulation of it in 1995 or so when it said it was supposed to be flying real soon. Now 12 years later and they are still finding major problems with it.

It would have been at one stage, but it's not now.

The history of this Catalina is here http://www.hars.org.au/fleet/catalina/index.html

I went down to Albion Park to see it in it's hangar a couple of weeks ago. The guide told me that there were concerns over the panels where it would come into contact with the water when landing, so it would probably never operate from water again.

That was Bob Hoover, who was a test pilot colleague of Chuck during a large part of his test piloting career with USAF. Helluva stick and rudder man. And his flying displays at Avalon were excellent. I think alot of people didn't appreciate what he was doing. It was fairly nerdy flying pilot stuff that I'm sure goes down well at the big shows OS where the audience is more attuned to that kind of thing.

No they havent, we've only had RAAF F-18's and they are the A model, not the E/F model

I've heard from other forums the following:
F-15C X3
F-16CJ X3
F/A-18E/F X2
F-117 X2

and on static display will be:

F/A-18D
AV-8B
EA-6B
KC-130
KC-135
KC-10
C-17
B-52
B-1
C-5
AH-64
AH-1

I can't say whether or not this is true but I certainly hope so.

No real need for speculation, it's all slowly coming out: http://www.airshow.net.au/airshow2007/media/news.asp

As of right now, F/A-18Fs and F-15Cs confirmed for flying displays!

I'm not surprised they haven't been giving a heap of info on the flying displays early, given the current use of military aircraft, and pilots, worldwide they probably don't wanna commit too much too far ahead.

LOL no way we will get F-117's (for starters they are out of service, i cant see the USAF flying them over the pacific just for avalon).. Given the past few years involvement by the US military im highly sceptical of most of the above list except the F-15's, F-16's, F-18's, KC-135 and KC-10

Yea I have strong doubts but seeing as I saw them on a major aviation forum, I was kinda hoping that it would be true.

Have FUN !!!
I foound that this area was good - but not always great. A lot of the runway stuff seemed to be better from the grandstand.

I'll be using (most likely) a 100-400L and a 70-200 2.8 IS. No TC at my disposal. I'll probably shoot with the 70-200 on full frame and the 100-400 on a 1.6x crop which should give me sufficient reach.

For shots on/off the runway, the 70-200 should do the trick but you'd want more for anything in-air.

No appearence from Airbus this year? What a shame.,
