Default lappie network card

Hi guys,

Just wondering whether it's possible to get a new network card for a lappie. Currently when I connect the RJ45 cable there is no light (there used to be) and the "Network adapter unplugged" icon remains. Sometimes when i'm lucky i'll wiggle them a little and it'll connect, but the slightest movement to the cable will disconnect me. I've been searching for lappie network cards but i can't seem to find anything about them. So far i've only found the external USB ones but not the internal ones.

Thanks in advance.

Most probably, the network card on your lappy is soldered on or completely part of the motherboard, so replacing it would require a replacement of your entire board.

Most laptops should have a PCMCIA card slot, you can buy a network interface card for this.

Sounds like a bad joint in the socket, either a pin is bent out of shape or the solder joint to the the socket is broken. Either one should be easy to fix

I had the same problem with my ThinkPad.

I started off with those USB-to-Ethernet adapters, and found that they weren't all that good. (Especially in Linux).

I then switched to a Repotec-brand PCMICA card (1Gbit Ethernet) using a Realtek chipset...Its fine. Worked on Windows (when I used to use it), works fine in Linux and BSD.

Its cheap and does the job well.

Sounds like buying a whole new wheel just to fix a flat tyre
