Hi Guys,
after some advice. I'm looking at getting my first laptop. What I'm after is Wide screen 14.1", Core2Duo, 1gb Ram or greater, big HDD, dedicated gfx. Around $2k or less. The best option I've found so far is the Toshiba Tecra a6 specs Quote:
Also I think the ram is in one stick with one other easily accessible slot making it easy to upgrade to 2GB. Does anyone have any experience with these? Any comments on build quality and battery life? Also I'm going moving overseas mid year, does anyone know if the warranty on Toshiba laptops is international? Or does anyone have any more attractive alternatives? Thanks in advance. |

i was considering this model a coupla months ago. i cant find anything as good except maybe the hp nx6330.
a couple of things i discovered (via other users on this forum): 1. the 512 ram is FIXED in the board, only one expansion port available. 2. the build quality is excellent. i would recommend though that you inspect a working screen yourself to ascertain if you like it 3. the warranty is not international iirc.... i think you gotta pay about $90 extra to make it intl. hope this helps. ps. the above reasons were not why i didnt purchase it

Cheers.
I think I'll go check it out tomorrow. Although regarding the memory a spec sheet I saw said RAM 1 GB (installed) / 4 GB (max) - DDR II SDRAM - 533 MHz ( 1 x 1 GB ) So it looks like it's upgraded to 1GB in the fixed slot leaving one expansion slot for another Gig. |
