Default DVD burner for Sony Vaio Notebook

Howdy everyone,

I have a 10.6" Sony Vaio and was wondering where I could get a DVD burner optical drive for it.

I didn't realise that it was only a DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive, dang nabbit!

I would really like a DVD burner...

Does anyone know if the DVD burners on eBay for Dell, Toshiba etc laptops would work?

I know my dad swapped an Acer optical drive for a Dell one and they worked...

Appreciate any help!!

P.S. any solutions that are under $100..=)

Is an external Burner a possibility? Do you really need to be burning DVD's while on the road?

Just thinking this might be the budget option of getting an external USB case for a desktop sized IDE burner.

Ah yeah, I really want it to be internal, I thought about external, but I don't want to be carrying an extra accessory with me. Cheers for the idea anyway..anyone else?

laptop drives are usually all the same

I reckon just take a risk, and buy a dvdrw laptop drive but ensure it has the same connection (ide/sata) and dimensions.
