Default corporate laptops

What do you guys have for laptops with a corporation. We have been using toshiba - but we are currently at the stage where 86% of all of our notebooks have had to have warranty work on the 'software modem' (from the olds te2000 models to the a3).

Either our staff are rough as guts with putting the phone cable in or it seems to be the only weak point with Toshiba. The last straw was when our 2 month old laptop has had a loss of dial tone.

Its getting that bad I was even contemplating dell with an onsite accidental warranty cover just for the sake of convience (either that or waste money on toughbooks). Do you guys use asus or a more expensive models?

Dell's onsite cover is really, really good that's all I'll say.

We have a mixture of Dells and Toshiba's.

I have to say that Dells take longer to die when punched compared to toshibas.

Another vote for dell... they are cost effective and their onsite support is great... also have very few problems with them

Got around 35-40 laptops for temporary loan purposes here, all dells. Previous lot were Acers from what I hear, and we're getting a new lot after 1st July this year - don't know what brand yet.
Dell support has been pretty good for us, but we also have our desktops as dells so we are somewhat of an important customer i suppose...

This is comparing toshiba and hp

I'd go IBM. We use IBM here and while they are not the prettiest laptop they are rock solid with regards to reliability (although hdd's fail - probably had 3 or 4 out of 100 in the last 12 months), and are built like tanks. The warranty support is great - if a hdd fails, a new one arrives the next day. Most other faults a tech will be onsite the next day to repair it, some faults the parts are sent out (keyboards and hdd's are sent out I know - not sure of other faults).

The school I work in is part of the statewide trial for providing laptops to teachers. We have all acers, travelmate 3230 series and I'm impressed so far. I'm not exactly easy on it either and it has taken it all and then some. As far as I know, there haven't been all that many problems with them either in our school. I've known of a couple of problems, but in an implementation of 80 or so machines, there were bound to be a couple that weren't up to par.

Yep another vote for IBM/Lenovo. I have brought 2 over the last 6 years and they have been very reliable. Had a problem with Motherboard once and it was picked up at home and repaired and brought back to the house all within 3 day. Were I work we have plenty of IBM/Lenovo notebooks and they are very reliable.

IBM/ACER/HP Corporates/ASUS for the win.

IBM/HP - Big name players with good onsite support and fast repair turnarounds.

ACER - Service centres and good quality gear.

ASUS - top build quality, and international warranties.

OP: I've had that many Toshiba issues with new models, we no longer sell them. They shifted production to China and their quality went downhill FAST.

Dells - I can't trust them. A client of ours with 30 had 50% of them suffer mainboard problems in and around the 2 year mark. They get too hot, crash at random, and have now been replaced with ACERs as a result. Lets not forget the exploding Dell laptop.. Oh and Dells support, every time I've dealt with them its been like stabbing my eye with a pitchfork.... its painful and half the techs are completely clueless.

Faulty Zip drive. 4 TECHS thats right 4 techs came out to diagnose the issue at different times, not one had the brains to bring a spare as they claimed the ZIP drive was fine (yet had no discs to test it with and refused to use the clients ZIP discs "incase they damaged the drive). We came out replaced the ZIP drive, 2 hrs and it was fixed.

Then theres the fact Dell the majority of the time use second hand parts to replace faulty items. A client of mine has gone through 3 motherboards in 3 years as sceond hand replacements (admitted by the Dell tech). after the 3rd one in 3 years died Dell said "sorry its out of warranty, buy a new notebook". Suffice to say they never bought Dell again.

Many more horror stories like the above.

Acer also use refurbished parts... and the after sale support for consumer problems atleast is totaly below par especially for someone who was working for them at the time.

IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads (not the v3000 stuff) or the HP business models. These guys are actually built to last carrying around for business travel. And the warranty and service packages that are included when you buy business models are generally better.
