Default Does an xBox, divx, wifi etc.

Does an original xBox have wifi and play divx?

I am wanting a way that I can stream video's from my laptop to my TV. I am wanting to do it real cheap and was wondering if it's possible with an xbox. If not, is there another way to do it wirelessly?

No and no. You have to get an ethernet wifi adapter and mod it and install xbmc/etc to get divx.

Also, I don't have a router. My laptop connects to my computer via Ad-Hoc, is this possible with an xBox?

So the xbox has ethernet? How big is a HDD of an xbox? Can I transfer divx files to the xbox via my laptop ethernet crossover? That could work too depending on the size of the HDD.

I think the hdd size is 8GB.

Pretty sure you can connect a few wireless things together using ad-hoc.

when you mod the xbox, you can upgrade the hdd in it.

Are there any standalone DVD players that can stream xvid/divx that are cheap?

At the moment a softmodded/modchipped xbox seems the way to go as it's reasonably cheap. So long as I can xbmc or other software preinstalled it should be good.

yeah but you need an aftermarket wifi adaptor and also a modded os like XBMC which turns the xbox into a media centre masterpiece (seriously it has redefined my home entertainment experience).

Can it use the xBox remote?

Is there any plugins/hacks etc that can make the MCE xbox version work with divx or xvid. I like the idea of XBMC although, I prefer the look of MCE. I guess I am too picky!

i've noticed more and more divx compatible devices appearing and i'm sure there must be some with wifi capability. things like the hard drive enclosures that had ethernet + wifi with remote on zazz for like $180.. no hdd tho. look around ebay and google and you'll find all manner of devices.

there are xbmc skins that look pretty much exactly the same as mce, you can use the xbox remote yep. Just buy a cheap router if you don't have one, dime a dozen.

I was thinking about a DVD player. However, after finding out about the XBMC it seems to be a much better option than a standalone at $180, especially if I can pick up a cheap second hand xBox for $60 or so. There is probably someone at school that has bought a 360 and no longer wants their xBox and will be too happy to sell for cheap.

Lastly, does this XBMC run on the PC or does it run on the xbox and just stream photo's, video's, music ec from the PC? I sure wouldn't mind having one on the PC so I can buy a cheap TV to put in my room and output it to that without the need for an xBox and without having to fork out for MCE.

It runs on the Xbox, but it can stream from normal SMB shares off any PC. There is also a version of XBMC on PC called Media Portal.

On the xbox, but you can use the xbox's hdd, an upgraded hdd, various different types of shares and streams from your pc and teh interwebs, and finally the xbox's dvd drive (possibly memory sticks too if youve done the USB mod [i havent])

Hell i can use XBMC plugins to watch youtube vids on telly, or watch the latest movie trailers from apples movie thingo, check the local weather too, the best part of all is that it plays anything Mplayer can play... which if your at all familiar with linux is... well everything and then some (way more then WMP could ever even dream of).

Also, it sure beats using the TV out on my PC, with a wireless AV sender, as i used to do.

Then to top it all off, u can play xbox games, or install other software, like emulators, and play your favourite games from back in the day.
