Default Dell XPS refresh soon?

Hey guys, I am kinda interested in buying a new laptop, which will be salary sacrificed (so money really is no object) and would like to get an XPS M1710, but seeing as how it has been around for almost a year, would it be time for a refresh by now? I don't want to buy something that is going to get a refresh in a few weeks time.

So, what do you guys think? From what I can see, the 9300 and the 9400/M1710 have been released about this time 2005/2006.

I doubt that they'll refresh it until the Geforce 8800 Mobile cards turn up or when the Santa Rosa chipset arrives.

Why would they bother refreshing now? It costs a lot of money to refresh a product (has to be designed, then all the old parts have to be eliminated before they can start manufacturing the new ones) and at this point they have no need to change anything. If new technology is released which doesn't work with the old chassis/mainboard, then doing a refresh is worthwhile.

Yeah i dunno on whether to buy or hold off.

If it happens early may i can wait, however if this gets drawn out to june/july by the time it filters down to Dell then i can't really.

Any thoughts ?

I hope they strip out the bling. Those useless ugly LEDs have to draw almost 10 watts.

Most likely they will announce it around the same time as santa rosa.
