it's printed to standard out by default... start a shell, type "mythfrontend -v help" and it will show you the various options..

And then you can run mythfront -v [blah blah] and all the messages you want shown will be printed out in that shell window. (you can also write to a log file if you wish).

I'm assuming you're using MythTV Internal player for ISO playback?
Check first that it's setup correctly.. Make sure if you have the ISO extension, the "play with default player" is checked.. and also check that the default player is "Internal". If yes to both, then see what the logs have to say, if anything..

Could be that you're missing some libs (dvdmenu or some CSS thing IIRC)...

good luck..

The new look mythvideo looks amazing.. Too bad it doesn't seem to work in Windows....

When you run video manager (in the setup menu), the system scans for video files and adds them to the menus. If the video files are moved (or not there) they are still shown in the menus until video manager is run again to rescan for added videos.

If the system cannot find a menu item, it will just go back to the list after a very short time.

Well it won't play the ISO's damn it it played them fine when I did them! Now I have lost all of my recorded tv as well! The files are all still there but nothing will show up in the recorded items list. What have I done wrong? The default folder for storage is /var/lib/mythtv/liverecordings/ other folders.
Why would mythtv stop playing them now? Why would it lose my recordings? They are there but they aren't listed within mythtv. Is there a log I could post here to help someone answer me?

Have you done anything to your database?

There could be a chance that some tables have become corrupted.

Ok using the mythweb interface I did a repair and optimize of the database and presto my tv recorded programs came back So now I am only back with the original problem of mythtv not playing my iso files. I have ISO's set to use default player. Command line is empty. Is the any lib I should check for? Is there anyway of seeing if mythtv has lost or got a corrupted playback codec for iso's? I get a flash of please wait then all I get is the wallpaper from my theme. Then after 5-7secs it puts me back to the screen for the file with play or done. I am sure it is finding them as I put one of them in the default mythtv folder with other avi's and it finds it but won't play it. I think it is missing a decoding piece of software and then hangs whilst it then realises it can't play and aborts. How do I test my theory?

my mythfilldatabase stops with the following:

Connected to database 'mythconverg' at host: localhost
use of uninitiated value foreach loop entry at /usr/bin/tv_grab_au line 3707.
use of uninitiated value foreach loop entry at /usr/bin/tv_grab_au line 3707.

it just hangs there, what should I do? does anyone understand this problem?

For your first problem check your mythtv logs. Usually located in /var/log or something. Mine are labelled mythbackend.log and mythfrontend.log and are located in /var/log/mythtv.

As for your second problem are you using shepherd as your grabber?

Ahh yeah, you don't have to run mythfilldatabase when you exit the setup because shepherd is configured to do that automatically. You can select No or CTRL+C in the terminal window and it will be fine.

Yes using shepherd so I will stop running mythfilldatabase when I exit backend.
I will also have a look through the logs later but I think I may have solved my problem anyway, Handbrake is now available for Ubuntu 9.10 I have been told by a few people that this is the program to use. I will rip them in mkv format with chapters. I ripped one last night and apart from not selecting chapters it worked fine. Mythtv found it and played it. What is the easiest way to change the meta tags for video files so mythtv can find the cover art etc? I ripped a movie with defaults in handbrake and the finished file is only 1.1gb.

I have done some further reading and it seems the mythtv internal player won't recognise chapters. So I think I will rip all my dvd's to mkv and my music dvd's to iso if I can get them to play again. HHopefully in the future the internal player will play and recognise chapters within my mkv files.

I am giving mythbuntu 9.10 a go and found that channel nine wont work. I did the fix as per the wiki. That fix works perfectly for me using an older mythbuntu. With 9.10 I get partial lock when trying to view channel 9 or 90 or 99. Anyone else had / having this problem?? I'm in Sydney btw.

Also I prefer my old remote setup for the key bindings (think thats what its called). Is there a way to cut and paste my old bindings into my 9.10 version?? Where are the bindings kept anyway??

thanks
