I was originally using the internal player, however it refused to display the dvd menu after playing the company promotions at the beginning of my test dvd, whereas Xine did it perfectly. Unless I can fix the issue with the internal player I've got no chioce but to use Xine, which isn't so much an issue for me, it's just the bad deinterlacing that is annoying me.

On another note, when I go to Watch TV in MythTV, I get the following error:

MythTV is already using all available inputs for the channel you selected. If you want to watch an in-progress recording, select one from the playback menu. If you want to watch live TV,cancel one of the in-progress recordings from the delete menu.

I haven't configured any recordings, and I have only a single DVICO Fusion HDTV DVB-T Plus in the box currently. MythTV.org isn't responding for me at the moment, and Google is only giving me results about scheduling recordings in MythTV.

Sounds like something IS recording, or the device isn't available any more. Check your tuner status under the "Information Centre" and see if it is recording. You can also go "Manage recordings" and check to see if anything is there. Failing that, make sure your device node for the TV tuner card exists, and that your mythtv user has permissions to use it.

for some reason my mythtv has just stopped working.

When I open the front end and go to watch tv i get a message saying: could not connect to the master backend server -- is it running? Is the IP address set for it in the setup program correct?

Check to make sure that the backend is still running. You might want to view any logs and see if it the backend has crashed. More importantly, try to determine why the backend has crashed so you can prevent it from happening again. A common cause is low signal strength on DVB channels.

matt@Prometheus:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend start
mythbackend already running, use restart instead.

matt@Prometheus:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend restart
Password:
Restarting MythTV server: mythbackend No /usr/bin/mythbackend found running; none killed.

No deal

That's a strange one. Make sure that no instance of the mythbackend is running

Code:
$ ps ax | grep mythbackend
Code:
 $ kill <pid>
Then try starting it again.

The backend is still running, but simply trying to do anything involving the tuner card kills the backend. I've pulled the card out and it is still happening. Is there anything special I need to do to install the card? I was under the impression that the DVICO FusionHDTV was automatically detected and installed in MythDora

Because /etc/init.d/mythbackend is probably starting it as your mythtv user whereas when you run it from the console you are root?

Are your frontend and backend on different machines by any chance?

No, same machine. I didn't even have it connected to a network when I originally installed it.

So is mythbackend running?

Do you get anything from
Code:
pidof mythbackend
If not, check your /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log

Disclaimer: It is probably just something small and stupid which i've overlooked. And i'm tired =(

Anyway,

A friend gave me an old analog TV tuner card (PixelView Play TV Pro - Model: PV-BT878P+ rev. 4C) so I figured i'd give MythTV a go.

I installed Ubuntu 7.04+MythTV, but couldn't get a signal off the card. So I thought i'd try MythDora.

Hours later ... I somehow managed to get 2 channels (ONCE) but never again.

I tried card type 37 and tuner 5 with no luck (tried 70 and 2 also).

Where have I gone wrong?
