Maybe you could upgrade to a 3800+? It's the last of the 939 line unfortunately. Other than that maybe a new monitor or speakers as you didn't list what you've got.
The most likely thing to happen will be me getting a Dell 2407 so perhaps you could suggest what I should get after that Internal: CPU: Pentium 4 521 2.8GHz Zalman 7700AlCu ASUS P5ND2-SLI Coolermaster Real Power 550W 2 x 512mb Corsair XMS 675MHz 1 x Albatron 7600GT 256MB 1 x 320GB WD sata2 1 x 300GB Maxtor sata 1 x 250GB Seagate sata Soundblaster Audigy Platinum Pioneer DVR-111D 16x DVD Burner External: 1 x Samsung/Samtron 75E 17" CRT 2 x LG Flatron L1510M 15" LCD Microsoft Intellimouse (5 button optical) Apple Mac G3 keyboard (smallest keyboard I have - 17" CRT takes up too much desk space) Logitech Z-2300

A C2D CPU.. a e6420 if you overclock... then a new LCD, and at the same time get a new GPU, unless your CRT isn't bothering you.. in which cased, get the GPU first..
P.S. It's a nice keyboard isn't it.. i use one at school on the shcool macs... macs are to expensive me to have one. hehe.. but having a mac keyboard,.. nice.. my rig.. (i was told before.. more ram and it wouljd be a file server.. hehe.. my beautiful beast... my only child/... i mean, computer... 1.5ghz celeron nVidia GeForce 420 16mb 256mb of ram (1 stick) 15" LCD 20GB really slow HDD CD/DVD reader (though it'll only read some cd's and dvd's... and it's random..) Onboard sound Touchpad for a mouse Laptop keyboard yeah.. old school gaming beast..... ok.. maybe not beast... or gaming... but it is old...

![]() But if you really had the urge to upgrade, I guess some more ram wouldnt hurt, say another 256mb and look around on the forums for a second hand agp card, maybe a 6200 or something to give the graphics a bit of a boost. They are cheap as chips now... MY System: X2 4200+ @ 2.65ghz 1 GB PC3200 Kingston XFX 7600GT XXX edition (factory overclocked 650/1600mhz) pci-e Audigy Platinum Soundcard 2 X 80gb ATA100 hard drives (I dont need more space atm) Leadtek dtv1000 (digital tv card) Asrock Dual Sata II motherboard 21" NEC E1100+ crt monitor Logitech X530 5.1 speakers Logitech MX700 cordless mouse and Logitech cordless keyboard MS sidewinder gamepad and logitech freedom 2.4 joystick System is used for general PC and gaming, also for TV watching in the family room. I think more ram is needed but give us ya thoughts...

Sonyx: I'd first consider upgrading cpu/mobo/ram, then the video card.
Get a cpu with VT (core2duo) for the vmware stuff. It'll also be invaluable in games and multitasking. Run your VM's from your fastest hard disk to improve their speed. My rig: Intel Pentium D 925 @ 3.2Ghz 2Gb Generic DDRII 533 ram (2 x 1gb) ASROCK Dual VSTA motherboard PCIE 7900GS 2 x 160Gb hdd's (PATA) 1 x 60GB portable hdd 550W Coolermaster Extremepower PSU 19" CRT 18X DVDRW External combo floppy and CF/SD card reader Regular and mac keyboard (its a hackintosh as well) PCI capture card (bt8x8) 4xusb 2.0 port card Things I do: I VMware a lot, mess around with alternative OS's (i.e. stuff that isnt windows), play flight sim 2004 and X, along with many card games (NFS series etc) and other "simulation" type games. I'm also into photography and video editing. Most likely guess at my next upgrade will be a big SATA hdd, or controls for the flight sims. Playing on the keyboard is kinda hard.

OhForkMe: Very nice system not much in the way of upgrading left... faster CPU maybe, 8800 and/or SLI.
Me: Athlon64 3000+ Skt939 Gigabyte K8NF-9 1GB Generic DDR400 XpertVision 6600DDR2 512MB 1x 320GB SATA2 Sony DRU-720 16x DVD+/-RW DL Onboard everything else I run linux, and i do a small amount of gaming but not much, in all honesty any upgrade would just be to satisfy my nerdly urges, and also to play newer games even better

Crash Dummy: "On a budget I'd suggest grab another 1GB of RAM and maybe a hard drive if you need it. Apart from that I can't fault anything.
My system (here we go) LAUGH IT UP! AthlonXP 2600+ @ 2300Mhz (200Mhz FSB) Abit NF7-S rev 2.0 1GB total of Corsair XMS3200 as the slowest stick. The other stick is a XMS3500C2 (BH-5 BABY WOO!!!) Geforce 6800GS 512MB (256bit) GDDR3 450Mhz core clock, 1Ghz memclk 2x Seagate Baracuda 7200.8 PATA 200GB drives, Seagate 200GB SATA, Samsung 400GB SATAII. 1TB total Liteon 18x DVD writer. Sorry I can't remember the product code. Old school Lite-on 16x DVD-ROM 460w Zalman silent power supply System is still watercooled in a different case from what is in the PCDB but still uses the same cooling hardware. One thing I'd really like to mention to all here now also is that this is by far the most stable, quiet and versatile system I've ever had. I've been using this for what must be bang on 3 years now and to be honest yes I know it's old but it is far from the old days of computing where a 3 year old system is fit for the bin." For a small upgrade I'd nab an A64 754/939 combo for a cheap upgrade. You could keep the better part of your stuff, and still have a nice speed boost to last you some decent time into the future. |
