Default Xbox Live question (360)

Gday Guys

I bought a 360 yesterday and received the free 1mth gold subscription and all is very nice so far...

However, is there any way of knowing how fast you are downloading from the xbox live service (ie in Kb/s) ? It just all seems awfully slow when downloading files which are around 30Mb etc

Also the multiplayer seems rather laggy.... I have forwarded TCP port 3074, and UDP 3074 and 88 but it doesnt really seem to be utilising my full connection (ie 1.5Mbps)

Thx

Use ICS through your computer and monitor traffic on the interface. Live downloads are hosted in america, thus..slow.

Are you playing against americans in multiplayer? Would explain your lag.

Well I don't really have any problems and I'm in Australia... downloads happen about as fast as my connection allows.

It varies for me, but usually never had a problem, unless i have other internet traffic going at the time from my pcs.

it can also depend on the game, some games (not many) will work perfectly with overseas players....

other games can only be played with locals

You've got a problem. I can play ppl all over the world with no problems. Lag is of course a slight issue depending on game and where they are playing (you can't fix the 100+ms that an overseas link will add...) but generally it works well for me.

Do you have a UPnP router, and can you enable that and let the 360 handle all the port forwarding? It works very well if your router supports it.

It may help to see if you've got an open NAT status in the Xbox Live test.

Thanks for the replies guys

Ive done a little research since making this post, and it appears that it is a bit of a known issue for marketplace downloads to be slow...apparently the spring dashboard update is going to improve things in that regard

As for the tests....everything comes up fine there

I downloaded the GRAW2 demo last niight (around 650Mb)...mustve taken about 3.5hrs to get (thats with a 1.5Mbps connection)

Not sure if Im ready to cough up a subscription to a service that doesnt utilise my full connection imo

Your loss...with the new low power background downloading and auto shutdown download speeds are a moot point. As well as the fact they've said they've managed to increase download speeds by 2.5-3 times in the latest dash upgrade.
