I am also thinking about getting a console but was waiting for the new version of the PS3 to come out.

Why you choose 360 over ps3 ?

New version of the PS3? It just launched over here...there won't be any new version for a long time (and if there ever is one it'll probably be the rumoured 80GB one).

cyborg...don't buy a core. You'll miss out on that much. You can pick up premium console by itself for under $600.

Because the 360 has games. The PS3 has what? I mean FFXIII isn't exclusive anymore so the only reason to own a PS3 is MGS4 which isn't even a good game.

I got no links but i read somewhere that in Japan they are releasing a version with an updated cpu and yes bigger hard drive.

Yeah...no that isn't happen. Bigger hard drive - maybe. "Updated" CPU - definitely not.

To be honest I don't think you'll be able to get much better value than the current console+3 games for $700 deal (apart from the recently expired console+4 games+ms points deal at JBHiFi).

If you shop around, you can find places that do it cheaper than the RRP or more. I paid $598 for mine but I have heard of places selling them for $500.

You could always try offering them cash but I don't know if they'll take much more off it. Mine was marked as $649 at the store I bought it from but I saw it another HN for $598 - got them to match it no problems.

Honestly though, I don't think they will drop much in the future. Microsoft doesn't have to worry about Sony, but they do have to worry about Nintendo. Sony has effectively priced themselves out of the market, and released it fairly soon AFTER Christmas - what parent is going to want to go out and pay $1000+ for another console this soon after Christmas? Few. Nintendo has the right price but I think the Wii sucks balls and its based on ONE gimmick and on top of that Nintendos games tend to be either rehashes of old titles or are too kiddy. I don't want to play fucking Diddy Kong racing or Mario Brothers IIIIIVVIIIIIII. The last game Nintendo had that I really wanted to play was GoldenEye (which I owned for my N64). Gives you an idea of how long ago THAT was!

Sony missed the boat and its sailing right on past them. Die in a fire, Sony.

Yeah that deal isn't too bad but you don't get a wireless controller or remote control with it (as you do in the premium pack).

There's been some rumoured $50 price drop for quite a few months now, but I'm pretty sure it's just that.

Exactly...Sony might do some stupid things but they're not THAT stupid.

So far so good. I was expecting the 2nd post to be a "As if you'd buy a 360, get a PS3". Hopefully this thread won't get closed like previous ones .
