Visit WD site, punch in the serial #, get RMA form.

fill out the rma form directly on the WD site and send the drives straight to WD, it is quicker this way

depends on where you purchased the HDD from , you should be able to take it back to the shop and they'll do it for you.

Thats what at least PLUSCORP did with my 2 year old WD drive

I recently sent a drive back to WD. Cost me $20 via regular airmail with AusPost to Singapore where WD is.

Just make up some story, eg: tell them the shop has now gone out of business.

W wonder why it should really matter to them. Someone more knowledgeable in the process might be able to fill me in here, but they are obliged to replace it under warranty regardless. Unless they have some sort of warranty rule that says only original purchaser can claim warranty. I don't see why it should have to be returned through the sales vendor.

My thoughts exactly, it was still under the 3 year warranty (albeit it past the retailers warranty period).
In the end I just went and paid Umart to do it for me (cost me 50 bucks!)
