I don't read the scientific approach to this technology, but it seems the era of holographic presentation (refer to Star Wars) is near or will be available for general use (embedded to PC so replacing monitor/TV). Meaning the device would be small enough that it's available to every home users. From the article: "The tyranny of two-dimensional computer and TV displays could soon be over. A team of MIT researchers has proposed a way to make a holographic video system that works with computer hardware for consumers, such as PCs with graphics cards and gaming consoles. The display, the researchers say, will be small enough to add to an entertainment center, provide resolution as good as a standard analog television, and cost only a couple hundred dollars." |

there were no picture of the technology working. they say they are basing it on a hologram projector they already have, but failed to show pictures.
i guess we will see by the end of the year if they were telling the truth or daydreaming. itd be awesome to see succeed, but it seems like a huge jump. from no household holograms to something that, by their description, produces an awesome HD 3D image. all previous monitor technology evolved. rather than just coming to the consumer perfect. |

Why not setup your own 3D projector at home.
Two DLP projectors would be the go. Cheaper than most fancy plasmas, you can get high resolution ones as well. So you have to wear glasses. Many people do just that to see normally anyway. With two projectors your can wear light stylish sun glasses type that don't require a battery. Most of the 3D content that is any good is 3D gaming or Computer rendered 3D visualisation.
