noob question here
but how do i tell what type of RAM i have? ie DDR, DDR2 etc etc is there some software way of doing it? like through system information or something like that? thanks in advance mexicanpete

You could probably use Everest or Sandra to check but you'd have to know what to look for. Easiest way is to see what voltage the sticks are running at.
DDR1 = 2.5v->2.85v (roughly but can go up to 3.9v if the module can handle it) DDR2 = 1.8v->2.35v (again a rough range) DDR1 has 184 pins. DDR2 has well over 200. In your case, since you have a Socket 939 AMD system, your system uses DDR1. AM2 socket AMD & Intel Core 2 systems use DDR2. Physically there is no noticeable difference between DDR1 & 2 to the untrained eye.
