Yeh so did I, but the message u get when u login is that closed beta is over - I assumed that meant we'd go straight into ob. Hmm maybe they won't flow straight into open beta but take the servers down till open beta.

Not really for me. I was pulling 200KB/sec on that torrent half the time.

As far as first impressions go, I think I can safely say that this is going to be the next MMO I truly call home. Especially since there's an aussie server. It'll be amusing, if I do take it up, to see how many hours I rack up over a given time. I'd shudder to see a full figure of the hours I spent in UO. It'd not surprise me if I managed to get close to 8000-9000 hours. That's close to a year of playtime. First impressions suggest I could possibly look at this to be similar.

I'd like to try RvR more first, though.

Had heaps of fun today playing ironbreaker, when I got healed. Did some fighting on a bridge somewhere and was just running into groups of greenskins and taking them down. Lots of fun. Till I got shot down by a siege weapon or for 30k damage. hahaha

I am starting to doubt how well casters are going to fit into this game. At lower levels tanks don't have that many more hitpoints to make them indestructable but at level 8 they have 500 more than casters. So by level 40 I take it they will have thousands more plus exceptionally good armour and also I am betting a very good chance to disrupt spells. I think tanks are going to rule the higher levels. The only thing the casters can do is in an organised team stand behind the tanks while they push forward.

also has anyone else noticed how long it takes to cast spells. It sais 3.0s cast time but it actually takes 6 seconds between you starting the spell and when it comes out.

Actually, it's more likely to be the other way around.

eg: My sorcerer at higher level taking out 8-9 players simultaneously with some focus AoE. Healers, clothies and mdps fall first.

Tanks may be the last ones standing on the battlefield, but without some dps on their side they'll be fodder for the dps classes left over.

Get 2-3 sorcs that are AoE specced to coordinate with some healers and you'll turn any battle pretty fast. The same goes for the BW.

True tanks have staying power, but once the rdps burns down their healers, the mdps and rdps can make short work of any tank without breaking a sweat.

wow, this game was exactly what i was expecting it to be.. a whole heap of "abso-freaking-loutely nothing new"... seriously... 100% disappointing...

this comes from an old tabletop Warhammer player who was dying for this game to not be another WoW and actually be something different...

if nobody told me i would seriously have thought i was watching and playing WoW with this... so so soooo dissapointed.

the PQ is a bit of fun, but really... its a whole heap of nothing new...

god i am unhappy.

p.s. i am only lvl 9 so will give it till the end of the weekend before i cancel my preorder...

I found it got heaps better once I hit tier two (~level 10+) when you can start keep sieges, bigger battlefield objectives, get renown gear etc.

The PvE is very similar to WoW (except PQ) but the RvR is a lot different (better).

Maybe but even as a level 2 Chosen with my stats increased to level 8 I could run around hit things and distract people and no one really did anything about it. A bright wizard hit me for 400 so I ran up to him slashed him once then he ran away. I am starting to like Chosen now since you are more than just a tank but someone who can stick close to their team, help them with your auras, and use spells to give your team extra damage with each attack. I also found I get a lot more RP by being a Chosen then a Bright Wizard. Most of the time I just get RP from being in the general area i.e. I have an aura that buffs my team debuffs the opposing team, and a spell that enables my team to get extra damage for 5 seconds (a lot when you have everyone striking in the centre).

personally, I sound it only similar enough to wow for me to feel home, but it varies a hell of alot. the the whole ui and questing thing is pretty much the same. but how can you argue with a ui and questing system that is proven to work?

The games got a built in quest helper for crying out loud. That itself is enough to make PVE feel better than wow.

hmm I find my rank 12 bright wizard's dps to be a bit poor in rvr, it takes awhile to take down people - I still contribute lots of dps in general (top 1 or 2 dmg in scenarios generally), but in rvr, I just stand back tab target whoever is in range, throw off an aoe fireball, or spam instant dot. I don't get to do much nuking, its just random dps usually.

Hmm what am I trying to say - people generally have more survivability in WAR so I'm not doing as much nuking/killing as I thought I would. And if someone does wander into my range in battle, I take em to about half way then they run off and I can't do much to stop em.

Still fun though :P just, different. Got my tier 2? renown set for my rank/renown level, dam sweet

edit: also, with respect to combat - there is something 'off' about combat via the hotkeys. Anyone noticed? I end up mashing/spamming my abilities a lot because I find the UI unreliable - the UI feedback to the user when spells are ready, successful, casting, finished casting is just not crisp/clear enough I find. They really need to fix this considering combat is the major game element

Ominae - the servers are all coming down after the preview weekend and won't be back up untill open beta.

All characters will be wiped after the preview weekend and also after open beta.

Also noticed their pet AI is a bit off, bloody pets won't attack when you tell them and they get lost/caught up on things very easy.

During closed beta got a Black Orc to lvl23, Sorcerer to lvl18 and during preview weekend a squib Herder to lvl12, White Lion to lvl8 (pet problems with both but the lion was worst) and a Shadow Warrior to lvl12.

I probably liked the Shadow Warrior best with the Black Orc next.
