Default PC100/PC133 ram

Can I use PC133 ram with my Abit mobo and Celeron 500 cpu.
At the moment I have 128 meg PC100, and I have bought 256meg PC133 and sometimes get blue screens and system freezes, which suggests that it doesn't like the PC 133. I only have the PC 133 in at the moment and the system works, but on startup the system will sometimes freeze. Any Ideas please.?

PC133 should work no probs at 100fsb but it may be the motherboard rejecting the double sided 256mb stick as opposed to the single side 128mb. It may be rejecting unbuffered as opposed to buffered ram. Just what I've heard. Your manual it may say something or esle reset bios to defaults (if you've tweaked it to run the previous ram non standard). Overclocking the cpu can make ram misbehave too.

You should be able to put PC133ram in, the reason it ain't working might be due to the cpu not liking the mixing of the 2 sticks.

Try running each stick by itself and see if it works, if it does, then it just doesn't like the combination of them 2.

Having two different types of ram is fine, it just runs at the pace of the slower one

Thanks for your replies. I was usure of the combination of the PC133 ram and my mobo. A couple of people have said that they're not compatible. My mobo is Abit BE6 and bus speed is 66 and I think the same for the Celeron 500. I have flashed the bios to the latest version and the bus speed now shows 75, and the freezing seems to have gone. I only had 1 stick at a time installed so I don't know if there was a conflict between the 2 types. I was thinking that I would have to buy another stick of PC100, but I think I will wait and see how the PC133 behaves. The price of memory is pretty cheap at the moment, and I suppose when its all gone, the price will go up again.
